  • Private Number Plates

Been after a private plate for awhile now,

Did fancy a coz related plate, But then thought id rather something i could use on other cars and keep it i was to ever sell my es,cos

So anyway ive been looking and ive come across a very good plate which basically spells my name

My name if BARRY and my surname begins with an F

The private plate ive found is B4 RYF, Therefore i would have it spaced B4RY F

The question is do you think i would always be getting hassle with it spaced like this and also whats peoples opinions on own name private plates Do you think they are silly etc etc ( That's the feeling im getting at the minute, Will everyone i know think im a tit lol )

I don't think id ever get a better plate then that, I also think a plate like that should / will hold its value,

The cost i can have the plate for is £2100 all in, Whats your opinions on it, Worth a go, Or is it to dear,

Im really really not sure but as said above i really don't think ill ever get a better plate then that

Please help lol Good and bad comments welcome

The thing you have to say to yourself is, at worst it's a £100 fine or could it be worse, maybe you had a pint for lunch, get pulled for a plate and get a breath test and it all goes wrong, best bet is to not have anything that alwrts the plod to you.

Im just looking at it aswell like it might be something that would be a nice touch on my everyday car abit later on in life

Once i hit over 50 lol or if i have a mid life crisis

Would say the best thing there fella is don't drink and Drive as said you might get a pull and told to change plates and get it signed of by MOT station, a fine or if you keep getting caught you will go to court.

Nice idea but it will fail an MOT if you mess around with the numbers to make it read differently, plus you will get a fixed penalty by the Police if stopped. Think you get 2 warnings/tickets and then they can apply to the DVLA who can revoke the number from you.

I have bought plates from DVLA SOM and they are by far the best to deal with and cheapest usually. Is it worth the hassle of fines and possibly losing the plate if you misrepresent it?

Have a good look around first, what about BAZ? Irish plates are readily available and accepted by DVLA, very reasonably priced too.

I just have plates with my initials on, they mean something to me but don't need to be spaced oddly, around here you'd be getting pulled all the time. And initial plates aren't that expensive, you can usually find something.

I've got B19 TJA, (because I'm 6ft3 and they're my initials), I've had that for a long time but its currently on retention, and my Cossie is N111 TJA, I wanted something that shows its a late one, and that had my initials on, and it was sensible money too. I guess if you scrunched up the 1s it might just look like the N with a bit of a shadow, but I can't be bothered with that. Oh, I've also got N4 AJA, which was the Cossies original number since before it's first MOT, that's on retention too. If it had been N4 TJA I would never have taken it off.
When I want one I always buy from DVLA because most of the dealers advertise the same plates but add their wedge on.
              Cheers

You don't have to be drink driving, any little thing could get you into bother over a number plate, a drink, seat belt, etc etc.

                  cheers for all the comments,

im really unsure, i like it alot but as said above spacing it will probably cause no end of grief although as maxest said it doesn't really need spacing to be honest as it can been seen clearly that its supposed to say barry minus 1 r lol

I have thought about the irish BAZ plates but im not that keen on them although they are a lot cheaper

think ill put a cheeky bid in and if i get it then all good if i don't then i supposed it aint meant to be

Out of interest what sort of value would anyone say the plate in question is worth,

initial plates are usually alot cheaper if a reg looks like a name its usually mega bucks easily into thousands, my plate m4rrk was the closest i could get to m4rk and cost over 5k but tbh not worth it really unless u want a personal reg that means something to u, i dont know why but i think a car just stands out more with a private plate

£2100 seems quite expensive compared to the plates on the dva website. I've got B19 LYL on my escort cosworth (my names Lyle and I'm 23 stone so pretty much a no brainer) it was £400 including the transfer fee. I have S555 LYL on my sti scooby which was £250 including the transfer fee so there are bargains out there if you look for them. I think a nice plate completes the look of a nice car but I wouldn't pay megabucks for one. I wouldn't change the spacing on one as too much hassle from the fuzz, need a spare set of plates for mot etc......

can see everyones points with initial plates, They are a lot cheaper and there is certainy a lot of bargains out there,

I just think the plate ive seen Is really spot on for my name even with out spacing it you can make out what it says,

im gonna throw an offer in of £1500 if I get it for that then ill be happy for as its something ill probably end up owning for most of my life,

Lyle, we obviously have very similar tastes when buying plates.

Barry, I'll never sell B19 TJA, that's the plate everyone knows me for around this neck of the woods, I think that only cost £399. And I think N111 TJA was £250 as I remember.
                          Cheers

I think you should offer a lot less for the B4RY F plate, as you would be surprised how much some plate companies inflate the price. I got £1000 off my newest plate which is RMA 9V.

I personally prefer initials rather than names, but if I could track down R4GAR I'd go for it.

sod it ill start with a low ball offer of £1200 and go upto £1500, If it comes within them figures ill be happy with it

Trev - If I did get it I doubt id ever sell it so its something im going to have forever so from that point of view it don't seem a lot of money for something for life if you get what I mean,
