  • 500 bhp ?

Ok so im gonna replace my head soon as ive had to helliciol the xam carrier caps a year or so back, my question is my aim is 500:bhp for the cosy. Its jyst a touch under 400 @ the moment. What would I have to do to the head for 500 bhp eg. Csms, polish and port ect ect. ...???? Its standard head at the mo . Current spec is .5 oversized mahle pistons with big valve cut outs, 403 greys, T35 turbo (t34 with .48 housing running 26psi)rs 500 cooler, l8 ecu with msd chip, als and lc . High flow fuel pump. So what would I need to change to achieve 500 bhp
New project on !! Another Cosworth coming soon!!

Really you are looking at a full engine strip down. Your block needs long studding and a wrc gasket bare minimum really.
Then a ported head, pair of cams, double valve springs, inlet, injectors, turbo and you'd be seeing the 500 figure!

It really depends to what standard you do it to, I wouldn't even want to guess at it to be honest!

Engine work would be around £7500+vat for a full build with all the work needed to make it reliable.

Correct machining/clearances/spec/parts used. Was the bore clearance/size set with a torque plate on it all this has a effect on the running clearances.

To do it right easy 4-5k
                    Head work 1000-1500
                    Cams4-500
                    Inlet 300
                    Injectors 300
                    Live map 500
Need a proper intercooler not 40mm one
Also needs to be a as said steel head gasket 200
As said above double valve springs
                    Then turbo minimum 1500 new
Bottom end would need to be a good one or need checking
It's not a cheap hobby to do it right and to be honest 500 brake if like me u use the old t4 very laggy same but I like it sometimes but is the trade off worth all the cost I don't think so,you can't use it really unless on track
Unless you spend more on the newer turbos out there then you need new ecu/ management external wastgates on top of the above just how I see it,tho I don't regret it

I have seen more than a few when they get that old laggy 500hp engine they hate it and sell the car on,
Lots of my current work seems to be updating old specs but I am not complaining

times change and things get better and people still want to spend money on their cars.

                        Dave.

Yes mark,it ok for now but I also have gt30 ext gate and t4 car,and the move from 380-400bhp -500 knowing now as I said, might have made diff choices knowing and realising how fast you go so quickly aswell on the road you can't use it on the road really.but as said I don't regret it cause I have become used to this and know no diff, but to go your route i couldn't afford to do the 2 cars now there both finished ish,the future may be one car coming your way or my spare new block and head
