  • was this true?

Just reading an article by Richard Hammond on the top gear site and he says about the rear spoiler "later on it would be cruelly shrunk to appease miserable anti funists like the swiss"

I never realised the rear spoiler was smaller on the later models , I know that there was the delete aero models

I know they came with or without a rear spoiler on the later models , my point was that in that article Hammond says that the rear spoiler itself was made smaller later on

Its on the link above on picture number 2

The actual upper spoiler wasn't ever officially available smaller as far as I know, that's just a photo from a strange angle, almost like a fish eye lens.
In Switzerland they weren't allowed the upper rear wing so were delete aero models although I remember seeing some very very weird upper spoiler with a sort of fill in between the roof and the flat part of the wing and I'm sure that was Swiss.
          Edit found it!

Never heard of or seen a smaller version.......sounds like bollox to me lol

I have however seen a hollow one on an early car, the car was down at Automotive Unlimited......at a glance it looked normal until you noticed that that the paint finish on it was a bit rippled and when you tapped it with a knuckle you could hear it was hollow inside and if you put your hands above and below you could push the lower and upper skins together until they touched !
I asked Duncan if it was some sort of aftermarket kit but he said no as there was Ford paperwork saying it had been fitted as an option.......some sort of lightweight motorsport option perhaps ? Dunno really !!

Later heard that the customer he sold the car to changed it to a normal wing as there was nothing could be done to improve the way the paint looked on it.
