i have two bull terriers, ive had bull terriers for about 18 years and they are fantastic dogs, great with my kids, but you must make them understand who is the boss, otherwise they will do as they like.
can be ignorant fookers though.
Never trust ANY dog with a child....people think you can..its unbeleivable.
My rotties are really lovely but one put me in a&e when playing tugg with a jean pull and he let go and grabbed my hand in a blink of an eye to get it back but it was my hand went straight thru he let go immediately and sat in a corner.....imagine if i was a kid...it REALLY fucks me off that humans treat dogs as though they couldnt harm one..accidents happen and we dont know what a dog is really thinking...i make it my duty to put my head to my dogs faces everyday from a pup...i play hard and smack them hard if they nip...my dogs will never bite me...unless by mistake...which could kill a child....
ive been bit by another husky/malamute mix.but i provoked it to do it.it was a re-home dog with a few issues and the new owners were worried about it so i went to see how it was.took his bone a few times which he didnt like but the 3rd he caught me in the fleshy bit of my palm near my thumb. rather me than the kids and they are working with him and he is getting far far better.
i never hit a odg though,i treat them like the mum does.scruff of the neck and put it downon the floor till it relaxes.ours are both fine with ths and know what it means
Bullet when i first had a rottie at 20 years old i had no dog experience.....we once gave him a raw hide chew and then tried to get it off him...couldnt...he was snarling snapping...we didnt know what to do...but then we got onto a guard dog trainer he specialised in rotties and she said be a manand wack him and show him who is the boss as you will have a very dangerous dog if you dont......so thats what i did and hey presto cured...i really dont have to smack my dogs now once past 6 months...i dont care if you call my cruel...WHATEVER...but a properly bred german line rotties are very head strong and potensially dangerous and imo the softly softly approach does not work....i have had them 18 years and always have around 3 - 4 of them.....they are very strong i love wrestling with my lastest boy in a non sexual way......the 2 girls hate each other because of him..all full...and if they get together a blind rage fight happens...now that is evil and very hard to get them apart and do risk injury LOL.....so they are kept apart..shame really but once the boy matures he will be knackerless i think to cure it..LOL.
I know some of you can bring a single rottie up without smacking but i would wonder who really is the boss in your house! (you can get very poorly bred timid ones which would require no disicpline either)
I wouldnt bring any other breed like this though..horses for courses.
