  • Converting from 2wd to 4x4

Just having a think and wondered what parts would be needed in order to converted a 2wd car to 4x4

Obviously gearbox, front diff, sump and pickup pipe, rear drive shafts, 4x4 hubs.....

    What else?

Are the 7" and 7.5" rear diff the same ratio as standard?

Yeah as long as you've not got a 3.9.

early 4x4 used the power steering pump on the same side as the 2wd so it wouldn't need changing

Is the floor pan not different on the 4x4 aswell
                        Thanks Mark.

Dont think so mate. I put 2wd stuff on to an escort Cossie before. Think the gear box cradle needed to be different, but the floors are pretty much the same.

i thought there was a bit around the gear box tunnel to allow the 4x4 gearbox?
                            Thanks Mark.

Yes Mark, very good point, best add 1sq metre 18 swg steel sheet, spot welder and grinder to the parts list

Also, I recall Paul Bailey used to offer this conversion (4 x 4 running gear & floor/tunnel mods) to customers with 3 door cossies. He did at least two that I know of.
