Agree, very good information as diesel ones I believe are usually stronger as they have high compression engines to turn over if im not mistaken?

      Anyone had experience with this:

Beware of the connect starter, I bought three and non of them fitted.
Bolt hole spacings were wrong and most of them had threads in them, the escort starter threads are in the bellhousing.

Eventually I managed to get one from someone who had found one that fit, again small body, torque multiplier starter, lasted about 2 weeks, the design is very compact for the brushes on the end of the motor.
Can't help but think the oe starter would have lasted longer.

I bought the recon one it the link here and on getting the car on the ramps it is TOTALLY different to the escos one!!!
The holes are threaded and the bolts dont go through.
Also it does NOT line up at all,not even one hole lines up.
Ive had to send mine for recon now but for
£49 i thought getting the tansit one and a quick swap over would be easyier.
Curiously,we tried a motorspares place locally who said they had one in stock, but that one was similar to the transit one (with threaded holes etc) and nothing like the original.

I did say it was not so easy, I have the part number of the small one and no one recognised it at all the local suppliers.

With respect tho,you would think th OP who posted ebay links to exact sales would only do that if they would fit an escort cosworth :-/
May as well of posted a link to a fridge freezer as its the same colour as a cossie.

I put the links up for the transit connect starter motors to show roughly what they were like and to compare them and the prices.

Did not know there were different types out there.

                          Dave.

If only this had come to light before saturday as car was on the ramp having oil change, I will do when i get chance, I'm questioning myself now though, wondering if i put bolts through another way or something.

The transit one i had on my saff 2wd is now on the Fiesta Turbo, and i only fit that few week agos

I think there are a few different ones out there that fit the connect, after having several from Euro parts I found that a) bolt spacing was different, and b) that they had threads in them.

I did buy a small bodies one of a guy on here, looks identical to the connect ones, fits the bolts spacing but has no threads.
It didnt last very long but I have given it some pain with a non starting car.

there is one out there that fits, I have one, only the part number sticker on it does not cross reference.
