We're dealers for Mongoose, but they only do de-catted systems for the Escort Cosworth.

Not that it matters, can fit a sports cat to any system, or my preferred choice would be to buy a cheap and nasty cat, make the ends quick release and the same with de-cat pipe, so it can be swapper over in a couple of minutes at MOT time or in the unlikely event of any other hassle.

How much are we looking at for a sports cat? Or a full exhaust that will pass the mot?.

Depends on exactly what exhaust and what spec cat you're looking at, but I'd say as a rough price £300 to add a sports cat.

For a full exhaust, depends entirely on what spec you want.

You guys are so spoilt when it comes to these things!!! You really need to stop complaining because of a simple issue like this. In plenty of other (European) countries simple things such as different wheel size, lowering springs or even change to a cone type airfilter is an issue!

I'm pretty sure me engine number is a 4x4 block so will come under "used before 1992" so just an emissions check will be ok

I used to run a decat on my 172, switched back to a cat as it wasn't worth the hassle come MOT time.

As far as I'm aware. The regs stat that from 92-95. The tester should check if a cat was originally installed or not. You then either get the cat exhaust test or the old exhaust test.

Now where you guys take your mots the tester maybe a guru on cats and cossies but my local tester checks by saying. "Excuse me mate. Has this got a cat". For which I reply. "No of course not. It's a 92 cossie. They didn't fit them".
He then does a non cat test and everyone's a winner.

As far as I can tell there is no way to tell if my car has ever had a cat or not???

                  Cheers.

When was your not. It's changed this year that a cat must be present if car was built with it.
Its a pain in the ..........

I would much prefer these sort of posts to be hidden in the re-birth section. Call me paranoid but you never can tell who is a guest and might cause trouble

Mines due it's not in the next 3 weeks I think. I'm sure it won't fail on this.
Once I've gotten over my burst appendix that is.

Furthermore, even if what looks like a cat is present, how do they know what is inside?

I know someone with a de-catted V8 Discovery with what looks like a cat, but has no innards. Plus it passes the emissions anyway running on LPG AFAIK.
