  • Hydraulic clutch setting up

Struggling with my external 2wd setup, i have a Reyland kit (off another car) fitted to mine and it's as if the clutch (AP 6 Paddle) isn't disengaging correctly and slipping - the pedal is set a little higher than the Brake pedal and bled the clutch yesterday but judders in reverse but goes into all gears fine, i got a little judder in a forward gear and appears snappy when leaving a junction.

The slave is a BMW E30 (new) and master 0.625 Girling - fluid ATE Super Blue DOT4

What experiences did others have when fitting?

    Regards

I bought the kit secondhand so technically don't have the right to call imo

The kit came from Martin and others have used the 0.625 - i have read others using 0.700 but never the 0.750 ?

What difference is the larger bore to make to the way the pedal operates?

Straight forward hydraulic ratio. Bigger cross section master moves more fluid. More fluid pushes slave longer distance.

So if my issue is i can't get enough travel on the 0.625 cylinder at the slave end then went straight to a 0.750 unit the volume of fluid will be greater giving more movement of fluid giving more travel at the slave end.

Seems odd it doesn't work as it's been on an Escort with rwd conversion in the past

Just checked this again now i have a helper and the slave rod is moving around 25-30mm when the pedal is fully pressed, bled the system again to be sure and test driven - the biting point is 50% between floor and fully up so i'm guessing something isn't right - goes forward ok but the more speed you get a judder then engages reverse is still that slipping grinding noise

PM me your e-mail address and I will send you the instructions.

Have you got the slave up the right way. It goes against convention and has the bleed nipple on the bottom.

There are two sizes of the bmw slave cylinder by the way!!

I had tried all the different sizes of master, the .625 is the best (lightest) with the correct slave cylinder.

Do not ever use the wilwood master cylinders. They will fail and leave you stranded!!
                              Cheers, Kev.
