  • ABS Problem!

Please if anyone has any thoughts on this!

I will try to describe what happens & what I have done so far...

Turn the ignition on / ABS light ON (normal)
Electric pump primes and stops / ABS Light off (normal)

wait 2-3 minutes...not moving...then I hear rapid clicking, sounds like its under the bonnet around the brake servo...

    see youtube clip...

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yj1eTU7I74

after this noise the light comes on. If you turn the ignition off/on again the light wont go out, if you leave it off 5 minutes or so, then turn back on it usually works as normal, until the clicking noise and the light is on again!

I have already had help & hints, I have tested with a meter the sensors, but as its ok to start with and it stops working even if I havnt moved I dont think it could be these? They check out ok on the meter.
I have checked the wiring at the battery and all seems ok.
I though that perhaps it could be the pressure sensor, so I swapped it with another, but same thing happens.
I have even swapped over the complete brake servo including the motor and with different sensors, but the same thing happens!

What I have found tonight is that AFTER the clicking noise the green relay in the boot turns off, but this may be the ECU shutting the relay down?

Any thought? Anyone Had this on theirs?

bump for the weekend, I need to test something!

Tonight I swapped the the green relay in the boot, but the fault still happens.

I noticed that there is a very quiet noise from the ABS ECU, but stops once the ABS light comes on?

No, not swapped the ECU as I don't have a spare and have not found one for sale yet either.

The abs pooter has diagnostics. I suspect the loose multipin plug in the boot might be the connection point. The pooter is supposed to speak k-line.

Not done it myself so not much more I can telll you.
                Cheers

I see there is a port near the abs ecu, but I have nothing to read it with [emoji20]

The ForDiag gadget is supposed to be able to read the k-line port, it's not something i've seen 1st hand.
                      Cheers

thanks guys for help & tips, including Mark Barber, who help me with a few tests.

and Graham for offering to send me an ECU to try!

It looks like the ECU was the problem, If I try my ECU the fault happens, at between 5-15 minutes. With Graham's ECU I have left in on for 30 - 45 minutes several times, and the ABS light stays out!

I have learnt more about my braking/abs system and now have a few spare bits, that I didnt need!

Should be back on the road & MOT'd soon!

                            Thanks,
                            Gav
