  • ECU change (to Vipec/Autronic)

    Hi,

I am currently running the (new) ECU from Ecu Masters USA. (EMU).

Oppliger fitted it together with a new loom and also mapped the car..

Since i'm having a few problems i was thinking about selling it and have another ECU set up.

I heard Mark @ MAD uses vipec and autronic a lot?

Any tips are welcome. The tuner decides the management so who knows i'll be off to another tuner/mapper then.

    Cheers!

Emtron is the best of the bunch I use.

      Hi Mark

Is it much different from Vipec and Autronic?
I'm not looking for an ECU that can do a 1000 things i wont use after all.. just a management the mapper can work good with and have some nice features like LC/ALS,.. the normal stuff.

Emtron is expensive? What if i changed.. loom also? Its brandnew loom + ecu.

      Cheers

Id personally take it back to Romain to sort issues, was it recommended by him? and what issue are you having?

Everything would need to be changed. If buying used either works but check the Vipec has knock control as there was a change in ecu.
If buying new you would be crazy not to choose the Emtron.
What are the problems you are currently having.

            Not so easy.

Its 1000km (650miles) to take it back.

He says to come over wich is a very nice service.. but i don't know when. You know he is the busiest man alive.

And i am looking for service.

Main problem is no AFR adaption. In italy no problems. In Belgium overfueling, sparkplugs all black, bad idle,...

I would change the ECU just to have the best after service for the car.

If Romain can sort it this month i might keep it. Otherwise its a change of tuner/management.

MAD is about 300miles from me..

I know it sounds weird but i need good and direct service (like everyone i guess). And at this moment i don't have any so looking into options.

              To be specific:

In italy tested and mapped on the road (i was there) together with dyno.

AFR was OK (about 12 to 12.5 if i am not mistaken and Romain said it was OK like that). On full load that is. Cruizing about 14.5 i believe

              Driving home no problems.

First start in the morning after.. fail.
Since then AFR on idle is between 12.8 and 13.8.. and spark plugs (IK31) black as hell. So changed them. But still too rich on idle. And when 'cruizing'..

Almost every junction it overfuels and car cuts out unless i keep it revving.

Has he mapped many of those ecu as the starting base map is important if you don't have a cold start done when mapping. The biggest problem is you have to do the hot map first then the cold so the first couple of ecus you map you need it for a few days.
After that it become easier to trust the cold start is good.

I believe he used AEM and i use the innovate wideband.

He also thinks there should or could be a coldstart problem as in italy it was never below 15degrees and in Belgium i fired up at a cold morning at around 5 to 7 degrees. Also barometric or atmosphere could be giving problems if the ECU is not learning or if that option is left blank.

Cheers for the help so far.
He has mapped about 10 ecu's like that. Ofcourse different specs.

                      Mark,

I know you will not look or touch into this EMU ecu thats why i just consider another and sell this one.

Yes indeed, today he sent me a new file (map) with adjustments of the idle and cold start. I hope it will be better, testing tomorrow as i need to change the oil again. (i smell too much fuel inside the oil cap)

I don't have problems on EMU, i would only change if i change of "tuner/mapper"

Romain sent me a new map so if all goes well again, no worries here, but if it keeps having trouble and i need to get it back up there again...
