  • Running issue (4000 rpm limit)

I'm having some problems with my BT stage 3 Escort it keeps going into limp mode (4000 rpm), seems to happen when water temp reaches 75-85 degrees.
Tried new MAP sensor, new blue water temp, new ACT sensor and different ignition module, no difference.
Also tried a different ECU and different chip (both P8 with same stage 3 setup though).
Tried reading off the flash fault codes, getting faults on TPS, MAP and another thing I couldnt quite figure out what was. But that makes no sense as it seems to be temperature related? And why would all of a sudden several sensors die?
So I tried fitting my ECU that SCS modified for Pectel monitor a few years ago, fitted the correct chip, wired up the monitor (4 wires) and all I get is a screen that lights up green. No text or anything working. Pins 8, 11, 20 and 27 from what I understand.

Any suggestions? Got the matches and a can of petrol ready

Lambda, goes into closed loop over 75degrees, if it's dead it goes into limp

    What software is it on?

Ive been using a MSD closed loop chip for years. Was the same when I tried connecting the Pectel monitor today using SCS chip.
Any easy way of testing the lambda?

Can you make a new loom for LHD Escort too?

For testing lambda..pin 1 and 2 on ecu, read the voltage with multimeter..or directly on lambda wires

do you still have the plugs on inner wing
as i had same issue and it was a bad connection on the loom all terminals for throttle position ,map idle speed control were all green so cut off plug and all fixxed
worth a look if you have the plugs still

These plugs were removed before I bought the car, thanks for the tip though

when mine went into "limp home" mode, and restricted to around 4000rpm, it was the crank sensor. New one and problems was gone!

Thanks for the tip, I think the crank sensor is off the hook this time

I'll check it, thanks, but it should be good, bought it last year. And its been disconnected all Winter, charged up before putting it back in the car now, and voltage seems fine on the Stack dash

James has come up with the best answer. Seeing as the only thing you havent changed is the Lambda sensor, I would do just that.

                      I cannot help….
but to say that it is completely insane with something like that, and my mechanic.
I had to turn back to 2 Chips for stage 3 and als.
let us all sensors and other switchboards happened anything 4000rpm
to this day i do not know why they did not go

Yes I can do the loom no probs

Lambdas can be a pain to test, you could send stu the chip back and ask him to turn off the lambda control as a test.
                        Regards James.

Looks like problem has been found, it was the lambda, thank you to James for pointing me in the right direction Had a closer look at it and found one of the wires had just broken off inside the top of the sensor. Borrowed one yesterday to test, seems to work fine with that, so a new one has been ordered.

Make sure you do a P8 adaptive reset once its been changed and allow the ecu to relearn.
                            Regards James.

Thanks again for the advice Could you tell me how to do this correctly? I recall reading somewhere that there is one of the plugs by strut top that should be connected together?
