  • small turbo, what turbo

Who would you recommend to rebuild the standard turbo?

Or is there a better turbo to upgrade it too???

    Thanks

Is the car standard otherwise? What are your future plans if any? Most everyone will tell you unless you have an aftermarket engine management the standard turbo is probably your best bet. An upgraded turbo will require larger injectors, and some way of controlling them.

Turbo Technics do a decent price on an exchange unit on a T25, they will also fit a more reliable 360 degree bearing for you.

Remember though that turbo's don't 'just fail', there is normally a cause so check that you have good oil flow etc.

Don't know the answer myself but interesting thread - is there such a thing as a T28 turbo or am I mistaking it for something else?

The turbo hasn`t failed but i noticed a little play in it, now i am not sure if it is faulty but getting it refreshed can only help and if fitting a 360 degree bearing helps then i am up for that. More preventative work than a neccesity

Apart from the compressor housing did it need uprated injectors/remap or anything?

Try Ahmed Bayjoo at Grove garage, he used to do a hybrid version of the T25......had the convention on my old red ST !
It needed a piggy back chip and uprated fuel pump but no ECU and injector change required 😊

A non issue for oem ecu and emulator or chip.

Mines a standard car, had the T28 after the old one had a failed bearing, no increase in performance without other accompanying mods. At the time I was going to do the GGR 285 conversion, but since changed my mind - the turbo is there if I do plan any mods which is doubtful.

Mine has a GT3071 ball bearing turbo, RS500 style charge cooler, a ported head, larger injectors and a few other mods. Running on an aftermarket management...made 400hp/320tq at the wheels with 1.3 bar boost.

Before having it tuned I was expecting to have to run at least 1.6-1.9 bar in order to make decent power but there really is no need, the car is plenty fast as it is
