  • Laid up / Off Road Insurance

Hi folks, I've got my Cossie insured as a laid up policy with Need To Insure. When I go on the Ask Mid site its showing as not insured. Is this normal for laid up/off road policies?

Probably ought to ask Paul this I guess, but I wondered if anyone knew off hand?
    Cheers

Read below.........................to me it looks like a car that is on a laid-up policy is NOT insured for the road. So your ASK MID data showing "not insured" is correct.

      Google search:
Most insurers who provide laid up insurance will also state clearly in the policy that in order for the cover to be valid, the car must remain in a locked garage at all times. So if you take it out and leave it on a driveway or a public road and something was to happen, the insurance may not cover this and you would be held liable for everything.

The above info is correct, Paul confirmed this with me when I took the car to Santa Pod for FordFest on a flatbed.

Is having it on a laid up policy that much cheaper than just having it on a limited miles policy?

I think if it is a true laid up policy because its in bits and you aren't going to use it then it is cheaper but I found flipping between the 2 can be more expense and hassle.

Rough numbers with Boncaster were :

Laid up policy was £100 a year
Normal policy was £500 a year

So switching 6 months at a time averaged out at £300

I now have a normal limited mileage policy with Need2Insure.

                        Cheers
