The best advice I can give you is to read lots and lots on here, those questions are all answered.

    The biggest question is budget

      20-30k is my target
Depending on budget? that sounds like possibly paying over the odds
what would most owners pay for an escos If they never owned one today? would you pay the asking price now or look at another car just intrested im also looking at a sierra cosworth and a tommi makkinen evo 6 but escort is first choice at the moment

Any parts on the car you are potentially buying that you think you may want to replace.
Make sure you can get them first.
Trying to replace an interior isn't easy compared to say sourcing original alloys.

If you want a standard car don't expect to do 4/5k miles a year as you won't be able to maintain it as genuine original parts are getting rare - some things just don't exist (but that's mainly replacement rather than service parts). It seems that the cars that get used most are modified - whether lightly or massively as stuff can be bought if needed. £30k will get you a pretty decent car, something to be proud of that you can use.

                Fast Ford Buyers Guide:
                http://www.fastfordmag.co.uk/files/old/FAF245.buyer.pdf

From a few years ago mind, but does cover some of the things to look out for.

I used mine as my daily for the first year of ownership and only had a couple of problems. Like said earlier, service parts are easily sorced but if you need other parts these are a bit harder to find. My biggest expence was super unleaded as I covered around 15k in 12 months! In that time I changed the oil and filters a couple of times, replaced the tyres, replaced the coil packs, waxoiled the whole car and had the rear bumper repainted where the lacquer had peeled.

I had some old esco buyers guides from years back performance ford and fastford mags wondered how they have lasted up till now apart from mybe rust, i imagine most cars have not been used daily and put in storage with low mileage, so guess have never been tested as an everyday car, kind of puts me off a little incase something major breaks and cant use the car, im not really into the car collecting for investment stage yet
anyone still use there car quite alot

                      Hello mate

I don't think it is necessarily value why these are now driven less. It is as said down to potential parts supply and also the fact it is a 25 year old car. I used mine daily for about a three weeks a few years back as the daily driver was being repaired. I loved the first week driving to work but by week three the heavy clutch, no ac and crap radio where starting to get annoying.
I love having it in the garage and going out with the family in the summer but a daily driver it is not.
Especially when looking at prices you can have this or a new focus rs???

                      Cheers.

Thats true which one is worth the 30k the escort appears to be a car current owners hold onto in hope of values going sky high fair play but would they themselves pay the prices asked if they were a buyer now rather than owner?, i really thought more would have been on the road with being enthusiasts, the new focus rs looks ok but cant see it being any better than an s3 or golf r it aint doing much for me iv a mk2 focus rs as a daily just now i think if they make this fiesta rs it might hopefully be worth a look however anyone else intrested in fiesta rs?
