I've seen that car and trust me it isn't a great example. Potential to make it nice, but in needs a few ££ on it with lots of hours.

I'd prefer the cat d to the sunroof issue. Cat d means it has likely had a minor knock a few years ago. Where as no sunroof on a red car that looks like a lux means a roof swap, a re shell or a ringer

Yes bit it's not difficult to retro fit those parts. Much easier than changing a roof skin

I'm not saying it isn't fishy I'm just saying it should be checked out before declaring it a ringer/write off etc

Agree completely Dave, my point was that Gus said to walk away about the Cat D. My point was looking at the images there could be bigger problems than a Cat D and they will probably be more difficult to identify.

Just think that history of vehicles can be very subjective and see far too many people putting faith in insurance categories and mileage. At this age with this type of vehicle you need to judge each one on its own merits.

My car is cat c damage to bumper wing and light scuff down one side (went through a fence) years ago, no chassis damage and it was repaired at ford main dealer I know it's history and it doesn't bother me, its also base model but has all lux parts fitted, my advice is buy on condition not history, obviously cat c and d cars need to be priced accordingly I would say about 25% less than a car in the same condition. IMO.

So let me get this right, the general consensus is a good cossie is £20k plus, anything less is a shitter/ bargain but don't buy a £15k cat d because it won't be mint? I think it's all getting a bit silly now, at least a £15k car might get driven and people will get to see it as opposed to all the £20k plus show queens/ investments!!!

Totally agree there mate, some cat d cars I know of are better cars than some non damaged cars. Also I know of at least two well known cars that if they had gone through the insurance company would have been cat C minimum but they didn't so to all intents and purposes they've a clean history. And the sad thing is I don't think the current owners even know of their chequered history.
