  • seting up msd chip has anyone mucked about with one?

when i first got my escos i fitted a l8 ecu and a msd chip set it up to 2.8% co and set the reg up to 3.5, not thinking it would be different as it was a closed loop chip , after doing that i put it on a dyno shoot out day and, was told its stupidly rich so i started driving hard and thats how ive had it for 6months its been fine just really laggy, but now i'm geting it ready for reylands for a map, ive changed the lambda sensor for a nice new one as theres no way the old one was working, it was so old and the wrong type, now it runs really bogy low down it struggles to idle and stinks of fuel.

i phoned msd and was told it would run at 0.7 co, on closed loop so ive checked it today and it was now 1.1 with the lambda on there so its lowered it self, as i left it at 2.8 before so i started twisting the screw on the ecu and we couldn't get it any lower than 1.1 but at a fast idle eg 2k it was 0.7co but now it runs like shit.. constanly missing on the revs and pops a tad now and then...

i recon the car needs to be about 2%co to run right

is this closed loop stuff just a scam, to make us part with cash?

the co shoudlnt affect the popping on the revs i think

possible fuel pressure is wrong, running rich isnt good mate especially running hard as you will get bore wash and that will kill your rings

aparently the screw adjusts the fueling the whole map... so now its screwed

You didnt need to touch it, i beleive if you fitted a working lamda it automatically would lower to the 1% off boost it was only 2.8 because your other lamda wasnt working.

          ..i think i am right!

That is correct, if you adjust the screw too far, it scrolls the map all the way round, so the top line becomes the bottom line (stupidly rich) and the bottom line becomes the top line (stupidly lean).

I never had any probs with mine, just plugged it in and set the Pre-Load, set the boost, job done

Never touched the Fuel Pressure , Can do much with the P8

hi mich can you please explain more detail how can i get it back to run sweet again, when using a co machine i'm not bothered if its a tad lean as i just want it for transport untill maping not to thrash round...

as for what phil has said i do agree it was 2.8% with the wrong lambda connected and did drop to 1.1% with the new lambda connected but at 1.1% it was runing like shit so i'm having trouble understanding if this closed loop quite what its ment to be...

in theory if my car was runing 1.8%co then it had a cat on it would it run around 0.8%co then would it run nice, have msd tried to get the co just to low with a tuned car out a cat..

                cheers

You dont want it lean, it would be better a tad rich to drive it somewhere. lean = melted piston

                    Dom,
I am unsure about what you mean about the car running shit with the lambda sensor connected, as it is narrow band, so is ONLY controlling the fuelling on light throttle loadings? As soon as it goes to wide open throttle then the lambda control switches off and it goes to the map settings. HOWEVER, if you have adjusted these so much that the map has scrolled round, then it will run like a bag of shit and the lambda will struggle to control it in all scenarios - is this what has happened?

Personally, I would phone Stu, explain what you have done and why, and ask him how to go about setting the car up again from scratch. Do you not have some instructions that tells you what everything should be set to?

The lambda control does make the car a bit more jerky to drive under light throttle situations, as the fuel is constantly being trimmed. But this is the price you pay for increase fuel efficiency.....

Get it to reyland and all is sorted.

If it was me i would call, stu, get it running as best you can and then get it to Reyland.

yes i checked mine it was running 0.3 CO on idle at the MOT.

The Closed loop works, on a run on the motorway i was gettin 35 mpg, on a very light throttle
