I was getting plastered in stones and grit mate but didnt want to back off so just kept my foot flat down and moved over. I may have gone a little quicker but I still had the aircon on so thats probably sapped some power. Just cleaned it up today and ive now got a gravel rash all over my new upper splitter. Oh well, 6000rpm was a must though.

Are you saying a std alternator can't cope Mike?

        • Mike I only have 2 pumps, rarely use the stereo, personally I'm going off the idea of the altenator as even the high amp one works its feels like I'm masking a problem rather then solving the problem?

Could it be in the mapping?

Not when it gets hot, no it can't - only happens when the alternator gets hot though - took me nearly 18months to trace the cutting out problem to the alternator . Sorted now though .

Any specifics Warren ? Availability, cost, amperage, ease of fitting

I'm all but ready to make a move on this issue so just want to know all the options - which is just two at the moment, R&B or a standard unit rewound to 120amp. Ruled out the grp A alternator as been advised it's a mare to fit .

                  • Steve Scott very kindly offered to make me up a Grp-A type one to try and see if it solves it which I might take him up on.
Mike is Ahmed contactable these days as is is awesome had finding these niggles

                    • I have a contact for a company in Cambridge that takes the guts out of a standard Alternator and fits their own bits, I believe mine is 135 amp it’s all squeezed in and works. I did ensure after fitting that a clean air source is fed to the rear as this is where it draws the air.

Think it was around £100 for the work

                        • Warren, sounds similar to this firm www.universal-rotating.co.uk who said they would take a standard alternator off the shelf and re-wind it to 120amp for me all in £135 old unit in exchange.
Only thing that's stopping me buying it is i did wonder if they're stuffing more windings into the same space would they be using thinner copper that might make it more fragile to heat

Not the same company that I used, I don't know the ins and outs of whats done. What I do know is the guys I use do lots of work for racing teams which is how I found out about them.
