  • modded small turbo ecos

calling a chap tonight at the back of 9 about his s/t ecos

on his advert it states s/t with a stage one chip, with a new large turbo fitted.

never owned a cossie before hence my poss dumbass question
but from what i have read up on, is that the s/t limits are around the stage 1 mark 270/280 bhp, before you need to change any internals.

didnt think you could just slap on a big turbo or even a hybrid turbo and all would be ok. different housing sizes ??

am i right or wrong here,

if he has just put on a bigger turbo and not changed anything else - will it just be a matter of miles before it goes pop.

i will obviously be able to supply you guys with more info once ive spoken to him, ie what type of chip and what turbo has he actually fitted.

are there any other specific questions i should be asking him about this, big turbo conversion on a small turbo'd car requires ecu change amongst a long list of other parts.

    thanks for reading

small turbo is a t25 you can up the boost a bit and get around 270 brake with a filter and exhaust.

t25 does not like this extra boost................you can fit a t28 to cope with it better and not change anything else..........

thats about it and most likely what he's done

FYI, going any bigger requires an engine management change amongst other things

T28 h/b on mine with Collins chip, filter and magnex saw 287bhp / 302lbft
Fuel pump changed to bosch one
        Cams took it to 303bhp / 303lbft
Then I changed to OMEX still running T28 h/b, injectors from Focus RS. Power now 303bhp / 367lbft.
        Turbo is maxxed out !
GGR used to claim 305bhp, but realistically 290-300 is what I've only ever seen proven on EEC4 management (std)

              Compared to most NO!!
Seriously though with Antilag on on a track like Nurburgring it is such a cool well set up car to drive. Not big power at all, but drivable.

who mapped it for you and did you use the standard sensors?
My mates running that on his ashtray GTE on Throttle bodies and may be getting rid, think he had someone in kent map it for him but cant rember who.

It will be fine, I can get you the loom you'll need
All sensors used off original engine, even trigger wheel as ST EEC4 uses a compatible one that works with omex, unlike the Weber cars.
Mine was mapped by EA, but now you'd need to get say APT to do it. I think Mike said they were pretty good with OMEX.
Mines been on for years, no problems, no issues.
You'll need to pick up the wires from the original ECU and away you go!

PEG had a T34 stuck on with a management change, ready for some bigger power.
I think the loom has to have some work as well??
