i use an optimate charger to keep my battery going,24hrs day but just lately it isnt working properly,it goes into charge mode when you switch it on but never goes any higher ie to the good/weak settings so is it the battery thats on its way out or the charger? lol the battery isnt all that old really ,prob a couple of yrs

Nick, do you get two lights one green light on the right hand side and which one on the left as you look at the unit?

the charger should tell you whether the battery is in good condition, fooked or what ever, which lead do you use to connect it and have your tried the other one, reason I say is mine doesn't always make a good connection

Which Optimate is it? I've had more than a few over the years! (6 different ones on the go in my garage at one point!)

1 is Ok, 2 is rubbish, 3 is cantankerous (sp?) but usually good, 4 is brilliant!

If it's a three, turn it off, unplug all leads, then start again. Bizarrely this works! (or it did with mine! - It even worked in two inches of water when my garage flooded until a few weeks afterwards)

I've now got a 3 on the bike and a 4 on the car, and they are both brilliant!

strange one Nick, when you say it never goes up how long has it been connected for.

I would expect it to tell you if the battery was knackered unless its just on its way out and its not enough of a voltage drop for the machine to notice

its a 3,i usually do turn it off at the socket then back on again and it seems to clear it like you say but not this time, its been on for a couple of weeks ben but is still only charging,no maintain,no weak battery etc

And you've unplugged ALL the leads?

As I said, the 3 is brilliant, but it needs some coaxing to do the job!

It could be the battery, but you'd have thought it would have lasted a bit longer!
