Nick, do you get two lights one green light on the right hand side and which one on the left as you look at the unit?
the charger should tell you whether the battery is in good condition, fooked or what ever, which lead do you use to connect it and have your tried the other one, reason I say is mine doesn't always make a good connection

Which Optimate is it? I've had more than a few over the years! (6 different ones on the go in my garage at one point!)
1 is Ok, 2 is rubbish, 3 is cantankerous (sp?) but usually good, 4 is brilliant!
If it's a three, turn it off, unplug all leads, then start again. Bizarrely this works! (or it did with mine! - It even worked in two inches of water when my garage flooded until a few weeks afterwards)
I've now got a 3 on the bike and a 4 on the car, and they are both brilliant!
Struggling to find 400BHP!

[QUOTE=The Radman;120935]its a 3,i usually do turn it off at the socket then back on again and it seems to clear it [QUOTE]
And you've unplugged ALL the leads?
As I said, the 3 is brilliant, but it needs some coaxing to do the job!
It could be the battery, but you'd have thought it would have lasted a bit longer!
