  • With all this talk of expensive transmissions today..

Do any of you guys running big power and gearbox's, diffs worth more than guy ritchie's cockeny phrase book have any regrets?

Would you say its worth it or do you wish you'd just stayed with a T34 and sub 400hp?

and say spend more money on suspension setups or weight loss?

I cant afford a expensive box, so i have to keep a spare and under 400 bhp..

But tbh i would rather spend it on the car another way.....

Althought i do love the sound of a straight cut box

It was not worth it IMO and yes I wish I stayed with the T34.

Unless you are doing track work, I would always suggest that people think long and hard before chasing numbers with the 4x4 transmission.

Got the fixit in mine. It rattles a fair bit in neutral and the sound when driving is annoying.. but I love the power and could never go t34 again..

I wonder what the results would be if we could get a netural person (Stig) to take a sub 400 poney Escort round a nicely varied track and then time it against an Escort with any one of these fancy g'boxes ? (same suspension and brakes etc though to make it fair)
Seq box's are fantastically adictive (only had a go with one in a mk2 Escort though but bags of fun all the same) but i wonder how many seconds (or laps ) quicker a seq car would be to a "normal" car ?

You don't even need to take it on track to see the difference, as Martin Hadland has already done this . Basically while he was building his big power tall block engine, he put in a 330bhp engine in his car so that he could still drive it on track etc. With the MT75 box it was timed to 0-60 in high 4s and 3.9 with the R&D dog box (no other changes). Now given this is ONE gear-change and almost a second difference, you only need to times that by several gear changes to see what a difference it would make...
