  • Getting engine to 400 bhp

I am currently running a stage 3 tune on my Cossie at the moment and was wondering how much more I needed to do to get it up to 400bhp.

I believe it is currently running about 330-340bhp. Spec is as follows;-

    Green Injectors
    Grp A Head Gasket.
    T34 with.48 Exhaust Running 28psi Boost
    Pro alloy RS500 Intercooler
    Baileys oil breather
    Blue Flame Exhaust
K & N Panel Filter in Drilled standard Airbox
    MSD closed Loop Chip

The work I have planned at the moment:-

    New Engine Bay Loom
    Coilpack conversion
    AP 362mm Front Brakes
    Larger Rear Discs

    Any help would be apprecated.

IMO Paul it depends on the turbo for 400bhp, some will say a T34.63 can do it, others say it can't, for 400+ I'd either go to Greys or probably Siemens black injectors and a T38 or maybe GT3071, masses of scope for future power then!

What clutch have you got at the mo? An AP Organic should be nice on the road and good for 400hp

I was thinking about changing to Siemens injectors when I do the coilpack conversion.

The clutch I was told when I bought the car was AP. But I maybe dropping it all out to sort a leak I have on the gearbox. Also thinking about the hydraulic conversion on the clutch too. May even send the box to Bara for a refresh as it has the cosworth whine in 3rd.

But Turbos are mystery to me so many choices. Iam after one with not too much lag.

Keep the t34 then my old 3 door made 420 when it was running ok but it was a SCS engine with some head work and db14s

The T34 will be working hard tho But its down to how hard you are on the car to how long the turbo will last for..

My one did not let me down for almost 3 years then i sold it

I run a T34 with .55 exhaust housing at 34psi boost, light blue injectors and a Harvey Gibbs spec engine which has made 414bhp.

thats going to dramatically shorten the life of the turbo though?

That's what I thought. I want something that will last for a while because Turbo aren't cheap

I've got light blues as well, and was told that they could only go as far as about 375-380. Good to hear that I can go more if I wanted to.

Tbh if your happy with the above why bother??
If you go from .48/greens to .63/greys i think the £££££ wont balance out the improvement as its only a small upgrade but a pricey one. I dont care what anyone says if you go .63 and greys/blacks and put you car on a RR you will be dissapointed , cos it wont make 400.
Will you do this then in a year think its slow and want more?
                            Costing even more?

For a genuine 400+ and for the Turbo to be safe you either want a T38 or a GT3071 IMO, the T38 can be a very good turbo but a lot of people have bad things to say about it!?

The GT30 is of course the turbo of the 'moment'
