  • Need some measurements please!!

Can some please measure the distance between the rear strut tops in the boot??

I need the distance bolt to bolt as im planning on changing the rear from a mk2 escort sized strut to standard escos geometry including new top mounts.

Also does anyone know the optimum angle for the rear strut???

I have plenty of space to move the strut top mount forward or backwards to adjust the strut "castor". So id like to get it perfect!

If someone can get out a tape measure id be grateful!!

I'm at work at the mo Warren. I'll have a look round for a tape measure and try and get the measurements you want in the morning.

I'm sure mine was around 103.5cm.

          cool thanks!!

Can you measure how far the centre of the strut top is from the wheel centre as well?

That will be a bit tricky in the car park but I'll give it a go!

good luck Cossie916. the measurement will also depend upon each persons set up if using coilovers. - sorry I can't help with that question as my struts are in the house next to me.

can I ask your thinking regards that question?

just roughly thats all. Im aware the wheel centre will move on a radius as the trailing arm moves.

Perhaps measure distance from the centre of the wheel arch inner wing as you can see that in the boot.

Its only rough ish so i can get the top mount in more or less the right position.

or even better if someone can take a wieghted bit of string and protractor to measure the coilover castor angle.

I will take a look at trying to do this today.

Ok, I measured the length of the arm and the the coilover radius is 55cm.

the castor should be around 12 - 13 deg. (allowing for measurement accuracy)
