thats chester racecourse and right by where i'm from,we were there that year Jim following the rally as its quick for us to get into the forests of n wales.

always made me laugh that it was the rally of wales and it started in sunny chester cheshire,i used to go the race course and avoid school as no fooker else would be there

great stuff mate i always regret not seeing the rac rally at trentham gardens in stoke as its just round the corner from where i grew up. sadly i wasn't into cars at all then otherwise i'd have gone.

its a shame rallying will never be as good as it once was

closest i've been to it was when i marshaled the network q when it kicked off at cheltenham race course in 1997. got some good memories of that and some souvenirs off crashed cars

i saw all the best drivers in the world at trentham gardens,i was on the maps cos i know stoke.

we saw gwyndaf evans smash his escort into a huge staffordshire tree and someone else did the same,the y continued but stopped soon after cos the car was fooked and so was gwyndaf.

i think we were in my old subaru which was faster than 3/4's of the cars doing the event

i have been all over the uk watching rallys and the rac was a gruler,nothing more nothing less,kipping in a mk2 escort with a shite heater and a crackly stereo,driving to scotland and dossing in the frozen forest just to see the mcraes,vatanen,delecour,biasion etc and standing in ditches.
we would piss a 1000 miles in 5 days and come back nackered

i remember when world championship british round of the rallying started in Chester most years,now we have fook all,thanks very much

did you ever see any off the group b stuff back in the day? that must have been amazing to which first hand

i used to watch grp b rallycross Jim,them cars were amazing like group a in about 93-97 but faster and more brutal.
chester was great when a big rally was in town,loads of foreigners driving around and stopping at the hotels,i still know what teams stayed in which hotels.
