well i am going to document my diy 500bhp build so lets see how much it REALLY costs without using a cossie tuner. Will be me and all machine work by a local garage. All parts sourced thru here/ pf . Oh execpt the map will be off the shelf nms.

I have a question,

what will the engine be used for? for example race or rally or 'other', as this will probably affect the amount of dyno time and therefore costs in a major way.

dont worry phil ive posted up how to do it for £1550!!

heres what i wrote

i wonder if you had a 200block already as a running engine take it to bits fully, have the block faced and long studed and have valve cuts machined into you old pistons.. which would probly cost £400 to do this at a local machine shop, fit new rings, shells, mains, £300

take the valves out the head and die gring the head your self spend a whole week doing it. have the cams reprofiled to bd 14's £180 and fit back together with a wrc £150 head gasket.

get a t4 copy from usa £150

die grind a 4x4 inlet out and drill holes for extra injectors like a rs500 setup! £60

buy 8 blues for £60
modifiy two 2wd fuel rail to fit £60

make the engine loom your self £40

ecu £300.

£1550 you will get 500bhp I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SETUP LOL does anyone else think that my pikey lash up will do 500bhp lol!!

It was only when I got to the part about you making the loom yourself that I realised you were taking the piss

the funny thing is, i know someone with a £150 ebay t4 from usa and its lasted 2 years!! and as for the loom i'm a electrician so making a 8injector loom out of a old 2wd engine loom doesnt strike me as hard!! lol!!

i am taking the piss but i honestly think that setup would hit 500bhp!! thats if it survives the mapping lol!

...the only thing i see dodgy is the inlet...a small turbo inlet with big injectors will cost less than 8 injectors and a modded 4x4 plenum. My head will cost £300 to get 26mm ports in and 25mm out. It will last aslong as any tuners imo, it aint rocket science! Those secret mods/cams are just just not anything special!

the only reason i said go 8 injectors is because dark blues arnt worth much i honestly think with a drill/tap set a 4x4 inlet worth penuts could seat a extra 4 injectors by simply modifing the cover and making the brackets for the extra fuel rail... grind out the elbow and polish it. i reacon a 4x4 inlet with 8 dark blues could be done for £150

.....+ loom + extra cash on 8injector ecu.....my way 250 for st inlet 150 injectors works out about the same with no bodges just a garanteed 500bhp capable inlet setup.

Mark it will go to a local RR around my area not that a rr is particualary reliable in producing a genuine figure but yes it will be done. Now do i just say its got to do around 460bhp? As all the main tuner 500bhp cars are dynod ones out of car? Not 100% sure on turbo choice yet was deffo gonna be T4 but not sure
