Cars with markers against them can be difficult to sell on, but if you don't plan on selling to make a few ££££ then could be a cheaper way into ownership.

In my opinion Cat D motors are fine as long as you have some photo evidence of what damage was done.
I brought a Cat D Audi A3 TDI years ago at 75% of full market value, had pictures of the light front end it had (bumper, light and rads) it was repaired to a good standard and was a really good car for years, sold on for again 75% of market value at the time.
If your getting it repainted when you strip it down you will most probably be able to see the extent of the damage

I was informed last week that the car was a Cat B, not a Cat D so I guess he will be keeping it.

Can I hijack this slighly and see what people's thoughts are on a Q? As some of you know I'm on with a bare shell build. Should be a nice finish when complete with mostly new or refurbed parts. I have no intention of selling but wondered what it might be worth? That's as a car and not in bits by the way...

it's a 93 BT down as a Escort RS Cosworth on the v5. Zero damage or rust repair carried out to the shell. It's been looked after.

Q might be worth less than a CAT car as it's likely to have a dubious history (usually when the manufacture date can't be determined), hard to tell unless you try and sell. Insurance companies don't like Q plate cars, so you might have to find a specialist.
