I said this the other week, what if you're out at a show or somewhere and some dick pinches the alloy centre caps or indicators? They both can be removed really easily.

Exactly, a dodgy fuel gauge isn’t going to stop you using the car.

in fairness with the fuel level, I tend to fill mine then do 200 miles, then fill it again

As has been said we can’t have it both ways with good values the parts follow suit

Surely in this day and age someone could repair an old sender from another ford for a lot less money, I would never pay anything like that

Unless you want to keep your ride in concourse condition, outside of body and trim, there are plenty of options when something fails. I know I can replace the fuel pump with any number of uprated units and there are companies that refurb sliding contacts. Hell, for far less than £1700, I could have a bespoke fuel cell fab'd from the original tank.

If someone has a old one or broken sender I can get a guy at work to have a look at seeing if we can get them remade no guarantee but he is good with electrical components

There's not a lot to a fuel sender unit, just a linear potentiometer/wiper, normally they just ware out over time, should be a relatively easy repair.

Yes the potentiometer part can be remade. It is just riveted in place.

Just when you thought parts prices couldn't get any more crazy?! As above, this is a relatively easy part to repair if you have one that's faulty. Just needs a bit of research to identify and source the correct type of replacement potentiometer.

Each to their own, but if you're wiling to pay even £500+ for something like this you need your head examined IMO.
