Sorry to dig up an old thread. Did you pick an exhaust in the end stookay? I am getting close to buying an exhaust now and still don’t know whether to have a Magnex, Mongoose or go and get a custom job at a reputable specialist.

I have been on Collins Performance website and the new Magnex has what has been said which is a Magnex front going into a now third back box which is in fact a Mongoose back box? The Mongoose one only has two back boxes but seems to have a straight through 76mm pipe. So does anyone have either of these modern versions and what do people think is the best to go for nowadays because I am struggling to decide and think I might go custom.

i want to decat but my MOT man who I know wants me to cat it and I don’t really think having the sports cat is going to make any real noticeable difference performance wise so I will probably fit one so there is no potential bother in the future. I have always had a sports cat on any other cars I have had in the past except one which I decatted.

Any input would be much appreciated thanks.

@ Tricksturbo, I never bought a new magnex as my mate Simbo went to get one and they said they were having trouble with the fit/quality. Thinks its like Radman said, be better trying to find original magnex.

I would purchase a used original Magnex is it was good condition. I think I am going to go custom then cheers and cheers Radman for answering me question on the lambda sensor not putting a light on the dash but I have one more. What do you do with the wire? Can it be removed easily after removing the sensor or do you hide it somewhere? Sorry if this is a really daft question but I am a novice mechanic just doing basic stuff.

the lambda fits in the turbo housing so you leave it all in place and still working, not like modern cars where its in the exhaust pipe itself

Here is a pic with a pants arrow! It’s actually before what looks like a sports cat to me and a non oe down pipe but I have a standard ford exhaust with cats on the car.

Little late following up on this, but I finally had the Redback Converters cat welded into my older Magnex exhaust. I had planned on slip-fitting the cat, but the Magnex pipes are pretty heavy. So, after breaking a pipe expander, I decided to have it welded. It would have been a little cleaner if I hadn't ham-handed the pipes first, but it seems to work.

Was it this one? which pipe diameter did you pick to match magnex?

that Looks like the oem downpipe. it has installed a precat, so escos has 3 cats in origin. it seems like someone installed an additional broadband lamda sensor(hego) to the downpipe..in best case there should be a gauge that Shows you afr in the car!

and you have no electronic boost control as the small hose goes direct from compressor to actuator without amal valve.

That looks like you have a great Magnex sorted there VADreamer! Be nice to hear it on a vid?

So phs84 my downpipe is oe except it has been modified to fit the wide band sensor? I don’t have an AFR gauge but yes the car may have before so I need to chase this wire and see where it goes to. Also would people recommend building a new exhaust off this some how because the pre cat remaining would still pass an mot and I will not need an additional cat? Or just replace all and remove this AFR sensor? I am not going to be modifying my escort so much to me needing the AFR working really but it would be nice if it is all rigged up to have the gauge in the car once again as it previously may have had.

That's the one. 2-1/4" to match the Magnex pipes.

For the moment, everything else is stock, so a vid wouldn't be anything special. But, I have noticed that you can really hear the turbo spool up now.

yes you are right. cause you already has the hego installed i w´d look for a gauge. that will be no mistake to have a look at your afr.

i don´t know how strict your mot regulations are but i would test if the one remaing cat is enough.
