  • Oilpressure trouble...

Offcourse i probaly killed my bearings since got no oilpressure on startup... But why is my real question. All was buildt up with assembly lube, including the oilpump, i had a dodgey oilpressure gauge, so kind of hoped it was that. It was showing no pressure, but had some spikes to about 6-7bar when revved it allitle just to try to get the oilpump to suck up oil, but fall straight to zero again. Ended up removing dizzy (4x4, so thats basickly why i didnt run pump with drill before startup, since hell to get to the bolt) first thing i didnt like, was the drive was stuck too dizzy, but ran the pump with drill and needed to rev it some before it started to flow, but then more problems seemed to show it self. It started to flow okayish, but inbeetween it got heavy "spots" and pressure on gauge jumped to 10bar before falling down to more normal again, this happened a few times but seemed to become stable after run the pump some... I put everything back togheter, and started it and let it run hot, oilpressure semed to stay fairly stable 3.5bar on allitle rev, 2bar at "high" idle about 1000rpm , but again it suddenly had some spikes with very high pressure, and the engine sounded diffrent to when this happend, so something going on.... and then changed oil and filter, its allitle "metallic" in oil but not in my eys extremly much, an when opened the oilfilter, it was some metal, but not "enough" to clearly say its a bearing that gone... Offcourse a 4x4, so its not a drop the sump in 15min job, but it will need to come down so can check the bearings...

But the spikes and unstable pressure is coming from pump or something, rather then bearings, so thats what i need to find the rrason for, just hope i dont need to remove the engine again.

Should the engine be turned over for a few seconds with the injectors plugs disconnected to build oil pressure when the engines not been started for a few months?

Normaly not a issue when have been running. This engine was new bearings, and been in total bits bottom end... I took a chance and not running the pump with a drill, since 4x4 dizzy so tight to get to the bolt on clamp when in car, but that now looks like it might have cost me some bearings atleast... Ontop of that, i knew several tappets in this head was bad, so its hard to say what sound comes from tappets, and if its a knocking from bottom end too now...

Took out cams and tappets, and dizzy again, run the oilpump, and i get mostly airbubles coming to tappets oilfeed holes... So i belive my problem probaly is pump or pickup sucking air somewhere

I always crank over after rebuild and oil changes. I just pull the injector plugs off.
Any easy way to see oil flow is to disconnect turbo feed at top of turbo and use a jug see if you have a good flow as you crank over.

The problem seems to have been that the flange on pickup to pump, was not "flat", so sucked air in. I knocked it flat, made new gasket, and also used allitle sealer. Now airbubles is gone, and pressure when ran pump with drill jumpt straight to 4bar.
