what kind of power do you have mate?? i run a standard t5box and a welded diff and at 450bhp 400lbft ive had no problems. ive launched! done dounuts in the dry, clutch kicked in 2nd and 3rd and done massive sets of 11's!! shit loads of drifting, shift locking, 50mph in 1st gear.. ive had nothing but fun!! ps i'm not a chav!! all my close friends are into jap stuff and drifting and i have the odd skid here and there if ive gone to a meet with them i dont like sitting there watching!! lol..

i think it all depends on the power you have... i'd rather have less but more fun with out turning to people and say if i had this part and part i could of done this and that...

Its going to be between 450 and 500bhp, but there might be a big kick as its a gt3076 and a .83 housing thats the only bit concenring me i dont want to have a concentration lapse and go backwards into a wall like above i think i need to go out in one, you going to the shows this summer dom?

hi all i owned a stage 3 2wd saph for six years was a great car had so much fun in it. Then sold it to a friend so still get the chance to drive it and it always brings a smile to my face. Then lucky for me and unlucky for another friend he had crashed his escos which i soon snaped of his hands. pretty much stripped to a bare shell i rebuilt the car back up and this was fantastic was so nimble and very sure footed, it did have a roll cage in it tho which helped. had this for 2 and a half years then the engine started to get a little knocky so it had to go for silly money. I now have a r33 gtr with 500 bhp which is a great car and so much fun to drive. Point is i think once you have owned a cossie your always going to want another one, must be the huge amounts of boost you get all in one big hit. Sorry for the essay.

          cheers russ

            Dom,
The Skyline is rwd . The ONLY time it reverts to 4x4 is if it suffers a loss of traction, and then the computer pumps up the centre VC where it can transfer up to a maximum of 50% to the front wheels - as soon as traction is regained (as in both sets of wheels are doing the same speed), it reverts back to 2wd .

The reason you stayed with it is PtW, as has been pointed out, the GTR is some 300kg heavier .

So GTR = 330ish bhp per tonne (assuming 70kg ish driver) - your car = not far off (assuming 440bhp).

What colour was the Skyline mate? I know there's a black one round my way (Sutton, Surrey) with 550 odd bhp. He just pulled on me (I have 491bhp 4wd), so with even bhp I would get infront I think Obviously you have 2wd, so a lot less transmission loss so will do the business with less power

hi mate, yer it was a black one he normaly is with your brother as i often see jb fletch down lake side and say hello.. the black skyline is serously nice!! the nicest one ive ever seen!! nice chap as well was chating for about half hour!! the funny think was he was shocked mine was rwd because he was side ways up the road in the skyline and mine gripped in everygear and stayed perfectly straight!!

year i'll probly be at all the shows!!! i think your be ok at 500bhp i'm not sure on the gearbox tho!! thats big power...

                    heres how mine is...
1st gear it will just spin slighty at 6k same in the wet or the dry
2nd if the road surface is good and 100%dry it wont spin atall, if wet it starts to spins about 5k
3rd full grip in the dry, if wet doesnt spin but might twitch about 6k so i hold both hands on the wheel!!

                    4th and 5th perfect..
as for the handling removing all the 4x4 weight eliminates the horrible understeer instantly!! it grips hard in the dry on a roundabout,to drift requires a clutch kick..

in the summer i'm going to run 888tyres on the front which should make the front so grippy meaning i will alway be able to countersteer so i never need to come off the gas this is how my best friends skyline is and he never comes of the gas off a roundabout he will keep it pined the whole road serously good driver he thinks nothing of changing up to 3rd when hes almost on full lock!!

The last 4hours driving home from newcastle ive been weighing up the odds, look what youve started

Do you still run the 4x4 front end bar for the sump, i know youve changed that. I would leave the front end as is and just have the stumps in the hub so if it was undriveadble with the power i could revert back.

I think i will wait and make my mind up when the engine is mapped and dynoed at harveys then see how much torque its making

No, you have to change to the 2wd crossmember etc to avoid the horrendous bump steer that you get if you try and match the 2wd hubs to 4x4 cross member.

I've always liked them and a friend has one - a white R33 GTR running about 375bhp.

They seem to need a few revs on them to get going but I like the DRG on them

Given lots of money I'd have one ( but still keep my Sapphire ) but talking to my friend the costs have put me off somewhat

We went on a run round Wales - they sound nice when revved and certainly hang on well in the corners ( with a bit of tail out action as well ) but he had to fill up twice as often as me...for the same cross country pace

ive got the same idea as you, incase i wanted to swap back, i have a box in my garage with all the 4x4 parts i use to have on the car.. if i sell the car i will have a few friends round for the weekend, beer and bbq and put it back no worrys..

                            heres how mine is...

4x4 rear beam( rewelded the lug over to fit the 2wd welded diff..
2wd shafts and hub carriers, 4x4 rear hubs and vented 4x4 rear brakes.

apart from the welded diff the this rear beam set up is a good up grade to the 4x4 setup so this can stay either route you choose..

2wd prop, 2wd box, 2wd flywheel, 2wd starter motor, 2wd big wing sump, 4x4 oil pick up, 2wd downpipe, 4x4 centre system cut and twisted and rewelded(could be cut and be put back to 4x4 set up easily)

i have still use the 4x4 crossmember, hubs engine mounts and all suspension and the 4x4 abs system... this lot is not worth changing!! its a waste of money!!

as you can see very easy to swap between them as 60% is still usable on both setups!!
