whats the best way to take the dash out for changing the loom?
it sounds like you want to do what i did... i undone the whole engine bay loom and took the dash out and removed every wire of the small turbo loom all the fan wiring and the fuel pump wiring!! took me a month in my spare time!! then i installed a l8 loom and wired everything in fresh!! i wouldnt wish the job on anyone!!
its not that bad a job mate, less than an hour. In brief, done mine in this order:
banana pod and gauges
top and bottom steering column cover
heater controls and left hand black plastic containing vents, clock etc
right hand black plastic containing vent and 2 switches
main instrument binnacle cover out
instruments out
remove right hand lower dash
stereo/cd played out then remove gear knob, and window switches
remove centre console
then 7 or 8 screws hold the main dashboard in.
Now for the tricky bit - you'll need to remove and unclip any wiring as you go along, plus disconnect and remove any switches, i took photo's of mine at each stage to remember where dash loom was routed and clipped into place. If your car has air bags you can leave the yellow air bag loom clipped into the dash. I can't remember how many screws at each stage above, but there aren't any particularly hidden. I did mine in under an hour, and i'm a graphic designer, not mechanic, and i didn't find it too hard.
One thing I would do if you've got the dash out is remove the heater matrix and check it, be a shame to fit it all back to find the fucker is leaking or weeping slightly (as mine was - very slight weep where the plastic meets the actual matrix).
mate ive just read your other post and i'm abit confused on what your trying to achieve!!
criag i'm a sparky i can help you too, i have spent 100hours plus on a escos wiring loom..
please tell me what your trying to achieve? not wiring wise..
you dont need to get to flustered with the original wiring it means nothing just wire things fresh!
if it a 4x4 saph wiring conversion into your car very simple...
theres a green wire, solder this to the correct pin on the back of the clock.Tack gauge
black wire to the out put of your alarm, ignition switch live..
a red straight to the battery.
a black and red extend and run to the boot along with a 30amp red and 30black striaght from the battery this will be the power to the relay and the sygnal wire for the fuel pump..
as for the oil gauges just run a single wire to the back of the dash from the sender unit and another to the gauge pod..
Dom i have bought a full bt turbo loom from Wenny i have bought a bt mountune engine and put it in aswell so just trying to get the car to run the bt engine but been told the best way to do it is to change the lot the reason i bought a bt loom is because for the wire to the oil gauge(on the bannan pod)as i want everything to work but as far as iam aware the only way to get it to work is for the bt loom
cheers guys think this is really the last string starting to extremely hate the car constantly fooking spending and getting no where constantly let down when ever someone is to work on it aswell except Mark just wish there was more people like him here instaed of fk abouts
ere lad what you want is one of our pectel t2 conversion keep all the original loom and just run a pectel loom through to run the engine side of things
my other mate said he will do it for a couple of hundred but i have to leave it with him at his garage i just dont like the car being some where else though tbh
