Cant you just drop the power and lose the fancy dash and enjoy her? 400 ponys is plenty and if it can take that all day long then do it, or sell the power parts, and put it back to stage 3 and engine her, Its mint and to be honest, I think it would sell better at a stage 3 spec, more people could afford it and insure it. Not only that, most know what a Cosworth can and cant do, one thing it cant do is be reliable over stage 3.

As for not modding these cars, thats just rude! I admire people like mike/paul/jase and so on who spend there hard earned money trying new things and pushing the barriers! Fair play I say

Absolute crock of shit, when my Escort was 480bhp it did over 40k trouble free miles with only normal servicing and consumables . It got RAGGED to death as well, 6-8 track days a year and twice a year to the Ring, racking up 9-12,000 miles every year .

The key to making the car reliable is to overspec EVERYTHING by at least 20% for the required power....

OK, but as you said, yours is over speced, and most dont over spec, they run everything on the limit.

But at least it should be reasonably fun, and I can learn how to drive the car properly at a lower power, rather than having x hundred bhp that I can't use

Then they can only expect problems, but to say that a car above Stage III is going to be unreliable is not true, as it can still be unreliable at Stage III or below if not properly specced (and if used aggressively). For example, the headgasket is going to have a hard time and will need regularly replacing at Stage III if the car is used on track on a regular basis, as the head bolts will stretch from the cylinder pressures / boost, and will need replacing every 8-12,000miles in that environment and ideally it still needs a swirl pot if used on track even as standard, let alone at Stage III.

thing is... how many of these cars get track use... and when they do, are they getting properly used on track, there are only a handful of Escort Cosworth owners that drive them on track as hard as possible.
Any car pushing out double the production power is going to having problems.

Anyone who tunes there car to silly figures and then moans when it brakes needs to have a think, this is how the cosworths got banded with the unreliable name.

They are your cars so you do as you please, fair play to anyone who wants to push boundarys etc and after so many kicks in the teeth, the cars end up getting broken.

If I spent the kind of money franco etc have spent I would be pissed, but Instead of selling it, I would downgrade the spec and make it reliable and very fast for the road, thats where its going to spend most of its time, and being cleaned.

This is the real world though Mike, some of us do not have the funds to overspec, doesnt mean we dont want to go fast (even if it is for 10 secs).................. hence posts like this! (and to be honest, I'd NEVER spend the money you have on a escort!).

Well as was said earlier - you should have fucking left it as it was and just resto'd the body . Do you think I or anyone else thinks you're more of a man because you have 500bhp instead of 350bhp?

Mods should be done with the end user in mind, not to impress other people .

You need to get out more and attend any of the shows with track days attached to them to see the amount that ARE actually used on track - you'd be surprised .
