measurement wise its 3mx1m and just over 1.7m deep, when i dug it out i didnt want it to be too shallow as that would have been a nightmare so made it a bit on the deeper side to be safe, but with the car jacked up it is a bit too deep so i keep meaning to raise the floor level by about 4" but ive managed for the last 6 or 7 yrs lol,one day i will maybe get round to it

Just size in when building the pit.
thats exactly what im doing as its a bit awkward sometimes if the jacking beam snags when your rolling it along

That jacking beam looks expensive was it?

What about it you have to lift the engine and drop the sump? you can't put an engine crane over the pit obviously (Im changing my sump at present and could do with the pit to stop me laying on the floor )

Is there any situations you have run into difficulty using the pit?

Just Googled it, seems to be about £500-£700 thats expensive, but still worth considering.

depends on the crane and its reach, some will easily span a pit and you can just slide the jacking beam under the front a/r/bar mounts/chassis rails to give you plenty of room,or just use axles stands sat on a steel beam across one part of the pit,you can see my 2 in one of the pics, only probs ive had is a few inches of water in the bottom one yr when it rained non stop for a couple of weeks,i just dread stepping back one day and falling in it
paul, the beam was around £300 s/hand but its basically new,you can pick up some old scruffy looking ones for a lot less if you shop around

                Thats great.
When you say 1.7 mtrs was a bit too deep, what was the effect working on the car, is it stretching up all the time??
I was worried about this as well. Its better to dig too deep and make a wooden platform 3 or 4 inches high at the bottom to stand on. I didn't want to be stooped over working under the car as well.
I'm wanting one to work on my 911, I have worked out a post lift is just to high for the place I want to put it. The engine comes out from underneath on a 911 so I would have to work out a method of doing it. Have you ever done that on a pit

                Thanks

I have both a pit and the redmount 3.5ton wide 2post lift and find that the pit can be more useful than the lift at times

The more I think of it a pit might be a good idea..

I'm actually thinking about extending the garage a fair bit.

btw I'm saving the rest of the caramel tea for the next time you come for a visit

yes it was a stretch esp when the cars jacked up,but its alsways easier to put a bit more concrete down to raise the level than chopping up the floor to lower it
never tried an engine out from below,i did fit a new engine in the wifes fiesta but i removed that from the front as the mk7 has a bolt in front cross member assembly which i removed
