  • Tech Question - What size tyres for Escos with 18*9 wheels?

In ET20 ish. Been offered some MOs and another set of wheels I quite like with no tyres, just wondering what size rubber to drop on them?

Will 245/40/18 or 255/35/18s fit ok?

I've got coilovers so can raise or lower the ride height, and spring / damper clearance I guess should be ok. Standard arches and arch liners that I don't want to bugger about with though if I can help it.

On the 9" wide 18s I run on the Evo, I normally use 245/40s, as they give a nice 90 degree angle to the tyres. Not a fan of stretching, or the polar opposite buldging either

Would 255s fit? I have a few of those dotted around at home from my 9.5 inch Evo Rota sets...

    Si

Ideally a 245/35 or 255/35 if you can get them in the tyre manuacturer of your choice, both will fit nicely.

Thanks Kelv, and by fit, without knackering the arches?

R888s would be ideal, as the car 9/10 is only used in the dry any way. I'll have to have a nosey through what I've got stashed away for the Evo

thought the r888 tyres are a big fitting so why use them Si anyway if just a road car, you can get decent size tyres that are suitable for grip and fit nicely to your wheels....though your choice.

how you finding the car, hope you like it?

        Dave.

          They will fit perfectly Si.
Rainbird already runs his on a 245/35 and is stepping up to a 255 next time.
JHS also runs his on a 255/35, as does Tom (Tarmac Terrorist)
It's the size tyre I'll be opting for.

A R888 is huge in comparism even as a 245/40.
My R888's gave me millimeters between inner edge of the tyre and coilover unit up front, and was pretty damn close to catching on inner wheel arch liners and body kit on full lock.

Hi Dave, was just considering R888s as I've probably got some in the Evo stack of tyres somewhere:

But on both of your comments, think 255 normal tyres are the way forward

I'm really enjoying the car at the mo, just replaced the gearbox and put a shiny new AP Organic clutch in, and it it's great fun to drive

How's things vehicle wise with you?

yes, you have plenty there Si.

              glad you are enjoying it.

i have just bought a Spec R i/cooler for my car, just incase i fit my old engine and t4.

MIGHT have a chance of giving you a good run for your money then on track lol.

                Ya' greedy fooker.
I thought my spare tyre collection was quite big, I've got 4 stacks on pallets wrapped up in tarpaulin tucked behind the garage

But half of those are 15" 888's for the clio

What offset does the Evo run?

Can I jump in this thread? The search function is not very helpul when looking for small numbers/text.

I have a chance to source some 18x8.5" wheels, and can do custom offset (planning on ET18 for the 8.5" width from what I have read around here...

What tire (tyre as you all say) should I run? Can I go with a 255/35-18? Or do I need to stick with a 245 width with the 8.5" wheel? I don't want to end up with something bulging out on the wheel - open to thoughts, opinions, and even pictures of the set-up. Surely there is a thread here where everyone posts up there wheel/tire/suspension combo? Can't find it yet....

I would really prefer to run a 9" wide wheel and do 255s, but interested in running this specific wheel, and they only do it in a 8.5" width.

I wouldnt run any wider than 245/35-18 on a 8.5" wide rim if you want to avoid bulging tyre look.
