do you need to have the battery covered up then as mine hasnt got a cover?

yeah and no,if your battery terminal is too close to the bonnet above you could have a catastrophe on yer hands broomy , a plastic ford cover be it a small one or the full size battery covers would stop it shorting out. obviously if you have the correct size battery you have nothing to worry about but its still a good precaution
i had it happen on a rs turbo and the car could of gone right up the mess it made and it nackered the battery and wiring to the starter

ahh the missis has reminded me ive got a spec r cover that came with the car in me shed so would this do or is it a bit dodgy being metal?, or would a plastic one be best i dont want it to go up in smoke

I feel the pain!

I hope its not too bad, problem with me was I wasn't happy to bodge the wiring back up as i was worried about any damage that wasn't visible and ended up changing the entire car loom, I got half way through and gave up and handed it over to Mark to finish! But I'm happy now that every trace of the problem has now gone and the loom looks completely stock still

Just when I thought I'd sorted it.......................I never

As said above, I started the car and checked everthing was working, even the alternator. Anyway, got up for work and started the car no probs, lights came on and drove about 50 yards and the car died....................loads of smoke near the battery again
Was too dark and i would have been late for work to try and sort it, but the wiring just melted again!!

Borrowed the Mrs' car for work and don't even want to go and have a look how bad it is!!

Think it may be time to throw the towel in and either sell it or dismantle her. I'm no sparky, but can find my way around leccy probs, but this may be too much for me. Someone at work told me to set fire to it and claim the insurance, but that's just not me. And would be a shame to lose another Monte.

Ahh well, may feel better tomorrow, but doubt it!

After reading all of these horror stories, Im switching back to a 097 battery (cheapo one)!

Anyone breaking an Escos so I can have the cable(s) from the main fuse box (3 main wires that are bolted to fuse box in drivers side of car) to the mini fuse box next to battery!!?

Please!!!

Or does anyone know the gauge of the wires so I can buy them and do it myself

scouse i knew your electrics were dodgy when your mirrors woz wonky

is the wiring not the same as a sierra ? i remember what i melted on my rs turbo was exactly the same as on a escort van so i removed as muchg as poss and it all fitted up nice.
tbh i reckon you need a proper auto sparky to have a dekko lad before the whole lot goes woofter

yeh the 1st time but what about the 2nd ?? its sounding to me like after you had a bash at sorting it somthing isn't right,so i'd rather have a pro check it over just incase you missed somthing.

i used to buy scorchioed cars and fix them and it was always worrying on its maiden voyage

Karl I am mate.

There's only 3 wires from the small fuse box to the main fuse box and it's these that have melted. They provide the FEED and POWER to the rest of the circuits. Can't be too hard to sort out!

No idea where they go in an Escos I know they connect to the battery, but can't see the other ends to have an idea?
