Just had more checks done on the car and it comes back as an Escort RS Cosworth Lux as previously stated. This is through the ford motor co system.
It was imported by Dagenham motors we think so had to be re registered and the cock up has been made with the paperwork.
I am taking the folder full of paperwork to be looked through later on today.

Did not sleep much last night as you can imagine.
If in doubt, flat out !

It means that is the build spec from the factory and the plate it was very first registered on for that chassis number. So that is solid proof regardless of what the V5 or HPI says... As long as this is the actual chassis number of course
I don't understand the import business thou as it was supplied in England with a English plate? It more then likely some jobsworth at Ford or Swansea entering the details in wrong first time like when Mallard owners have blue in their V5's

                        Thanks again Rippers.
You are not the only person who has said cock up with dvla or ford.
I just need to find out if I can have the v5 amended then.
                        I really hope so.

years ago loads of top spec fords came from the channel islands and would end up in other main ford dealers as imported, they would be registered stating previously registered and or used abroad and the date of registration would be different to the the letter of the car if you worked it out.
also the armed forces could buy fords heavily discounted and sometimes resell for more than they cost if they were the right car and again they would show as imported if registered in germany etc.
if the numbers in the floor have been messed around with then the above means not a lot but if they are original untouched then the above could explain why its been registered the following yr.
obviously a few decent pics of the chassis number from below and above and obscure the last 4 numbers would show if theres been any cutting or welding or the numbers look different etc
