Yes Frank, had to call fire brigade, went out to stoke it and noticed flue temp had gone past 400 deg which does not normally happen, then went outside for more wood and could smell burning soot not the normal wood smell. Could see an orange glow on the bottom of the cowl, so opened the inspection hatch and took a pic

Was just glowing but when fire brigade started to prod it sparks were flying out the chimney. They put water down but we must have a breach in the concrete liner as some water came out the sides of the chimney.
Need to decide today if we're going to take it through insurance or not.
Will remember the steam quench tip, I shut all the dampers down and thought it may burn its self out.

The Escort is in the heated garage for the winter, but my BMW gets an average of 100 miles a day. Havent got 18" winter wheels to fit over my brakes, and couldnt bring myself to drive in in all this salt even if I had. My blue BMW is mostly white/light grey during winter Had -22 here last week. The coldest last winter was -31 at my house.

We had minus 31-34 degrees over 14days last winter. Alot of car problems then, breathers who frozen and oil coming out all over. Frozen batteries, frozen cooling system. I hate when it got cold like that, glad i working indoors

I can - extremely cold! I did a snowboard season at whistler blackcomb a few years back and when it got really cold it was around -35, we were sat on the chairlifts with hoods zipped right up and covering any exposed skin on our faces as it hurt in the wind

There wouldnt be anything left of my if I used it during the winter. I tried and realised it would last long if I kept driving like that every winter
No offence to Mike or his driving, but using his "skidding" video, getting black flagged for that I see more sideways action on my way to work in the morning
Come over here in January/February, thats the best time of year for winter driving
