  • Is your track car past reprieve

Ive been looking at the resto threads lately and pondering how many members have taken their ESCOS too far so it can never been returned as a decent road car again.
Not that I'm knocking the cars some cracking track cars owned by members on here.
    BUT
When the time comes , and it will, when you dont need a track car how many will have to be sold cheep or broken up for bits.
In the big scheme of things how will this impact the numbers of decent roads going ESCOS left. I dont mean big power mods but non returnable modes to shell and to some extent trim and dash etc (ie cages, carbon roofs , holes in dash etc etc etc.)

Are the number of fooked about shells far less than I imagine or if there was a poll of intact road going cars would we find there are less than we think.Sort of like a ticking time bomb, when its time to pay the piper what will survive and what wont

Tipping point is a roll cage i guess........ once you take that step then there is almost certainly no going back.

........ and as for flaring the rear arches don't know how anyone can bring themselves to do that to a classic car

Agreed, even taking off roofs and quarters and replacing with Carbon etc. Even if you did manage to get originals back on before selling, would you be obliged to tell them that the car is not factory welded panels.
People talk alot about cat c and d cars being difficult to sell and when they do there cheap. Surly a car having to have a new roof, wings and 1/4's would be classified in a similar way.
Having one is like having ticket for the Titanic.....its only going to end one way

Its good to see all the track cars and Ive had a Rally car my self ( q plate unfortunately) but I do wonder about this from time to time.

Thats why I bought myself the sierra, the idea was for it to be a cheap track car so I could keep the escort off the track and in the garage, the cheap bit went out of the window when I decided to go racing, 25k ish later it's not a cheap track car lol

I've purposely kept mine to a certain spec. The only thing that I can't change on mine back to standard is the hydraulic clutch but I thought the benefits far outweighed the cons.

When I eventually do build a track car I've got a spare shell to destroy and keep mine

Still got the original engine and konis etc I've kept as many things as poss of the old car and instead of weight loss I went for more power and kept the interior but everything under the car has been done to give the best handling thing I can afford

OH FUCK WHAT WAS THAT NOISE

I have a similar issue when it comes to being completely standard, suspension, brakes, wheels, tanks, rads etc non standard, but like wise its still a good road car and in all intense and purposes still a sell able road car if i had to or a road car to grow "older " in.lol.

a very good point, however as my current shell was never a road shell the question does not apply.

If I was going to go on track I personally would not convert my road going Escos.

My car can be returned to standard.

Even with its original engine. I hope
