18" tyre sizes

anyone running 35 profile on their 18" rims

40's on my rondells but have a set of good 225-35's tyres there that i might put on the revolution milleniums as spare set of wheels!!

I run 40's myself but I can't see there will be much difference maybe a slightly harsher ride, bearing in mind the profile is a percentage of the width so 18" converted to mm is 457.2
So 40% of 225 is 90mm, and 35% of 225 is 78.75mm so the difference in profile is 11.25mm per diameter or 5.62m per radius.
So overall diameter is either 547.2mm or 535.75mm.
A tyre generally has 8mm of tread when new, if you deduct the 1.5mm legal limit you have 6.5mm to play with so by my calculations when your 225/40 tyre is near its legal limit it is the same diameter as a 225/35.
NOW, in my experience my tyres seem to handle a lot better when they are nearing the legal limit so I would say go for it, but I use paradas and they are very soft anyway and I feel like when giving them stick they may be flexing/rolling on the treads. Hope I've not confused you too much!

thats a lot of info in one reply dave the tyres are goodyear f1 so they are to good not to use!!!

Afaik a 225/35 is closer to the original rolling radious anyway..

The standard wheels iirc we're 245/45/16 so 16" is 406.4mm, 245x45% is 110.25mm so total diameter is 516.65mm.
Yes they are closer to standard but 17" are meant to handle better and 18" definately look better!! Make you're own mind up
