seen so many props do damage like in the pic of the box in Mikes post, even on standard 4x4 cossies and xr4x4's.

As to saying that this doesn't show the strength of it is a bit bizarre, when the shock wave took out the casing in such a manner that is typical of the CWP climbing over each other and splitting the casing (there is no physical damage to the diff). However, it was so severe that the thick-wall casing could not prevent it either.
Mike, I mean the strength discussion that relates to this thread, I.e how the cover performs under normal driving and flexing of the diff..... not how it holds up after a failure of the prop.

I no longer even sell the steel ones (as there are so many places you can get them from), so my comment is totally objective.

You have to understand how the prop failed to know that it relates exactly to that. Basically the UJ siezed solid due to the fact that I do so many track days and the proximity of the exhaust dried out all the grease. It twisted like liquorice, so you can see it loaded the front diff up and had the same effect as doing a huge standing start (probably even greater due to the road AND engine speed), this is why it split in three around the CWP. If you look at Kev Sharp's photos on PF of when he did the same thing to his Quaife thick-wall casing (but actually did it from a standing start), the failure is identical, except his prop twist and sheared instead of his UJ.

Unsurprisingly the UJ is now greased EVERY few thousand miles and when the car next is off the road having a few bits done, the mid section is going to Zircotec to have that part ceramic coated to help prevent the same thing happening .
