The secret is to powder coat the beam but to paint the arms so you don't have to disturb the bushes.

Ps the GGR price for the 4 bushes is still far less than finding and fitting a new rear quarter panel

I think I'll have to risk it and fit the dreaded polys.

Refuse to pay nearly £400 for 4 bushes. How ridiculous

Better start looking for quarter panels now then

If your existing ones are not worn and you don't want to replace them with new ones, then you have no choice but to press out your old ones and then refit them once the powder-coating has been done (as the high temps involved in the powder coating will destroy the rubber protection).
Mike, I'm sure you've told me before but which bushes wouldn't you replace from the originals with Powerflex bushes on the Escort, was this just the big rear beam bushes or some of the others too? I'm going to be setting about mine soon and don't want to fit anything that's going to make it worse than it was before.

I have found some bearings on some Saab`s who is nearly dimension as the smallest on cossie. Only need a little shim on the bolt, as the senter is a little shorter. It`s possalible to find other who fits on the biggest one also, as there is other cars, who use same type of bearings, and they are alot cheaper

if your careful you can remove the rubber covers on the outside of the bushes, then clean all the grease then powdercoat the beam regrease then refit the covers
the bushes look like this with the covers removed

Once you change them they pretty much last forever, I imagine that's why they were discontinued as Ford probably never sold any. The only reason people want them nowadays is because they're obsessed with powder coating the underside

I don't understand why people skimp on brakes and suspension. Do you want to have an accident? I know there expensive but that's cosworth life.
                      Thanks Mark.

It's just the four trailing arm bushes - you can change the main beam bushes and ARB bushes .

                          Skimp?! Lol!

                          It's a ford sierra, not a bloody Ferrari F40!

I just refuse to be extorted. So I'll have to make do with polys in there.

Im about to refirb a rear beam for mine, Just one of those things really certainly not worth going a route which you know is not right and will lead to problems,

£400 is a fair amount, but wouldnt even get you a wing mirror glass for most new BMWs
And i bet if that £400 gained you some power you wouldnt think twice about spending it
                            Regards James.

It's not a matter of being extorted - the original ones from Ford were a very similar price LOL.

At the end of the day, you'll ruin the handling of the car - but that is up to you.
