  • Roof seam covers

Does anybody know how the roof seam covers come off ( plastic strip on roof ) without breaking them as I want to clean under them and treat the rubber on them?

They are one of the only items I left on mine when it was painted, not ideal, but they break really easily so I didn't risk it.

And they're ridiculously priced as well, leave em on Mike

Or are you planning on fitting a roof rack?

Yeah they are expensive new , I tried taking a couple of a scrap mk5 (they look the same) and they broke. You can break them refitting them too.

Leave them on, when you could get them they were around £80 each from ford, I've been looking for 2 years for a pair of good rubbers for mine

If you mean the black part, they aren't rubbers, its factory sealer - can be replicated easily enough.

They are rubber the metal colour coded part sits on top of them.

I've checked with ford and Mark Barber, its sealer.

Edit - actually, do you mean the bit that bridges between the shell and the plastic, or something that goes under the plastic?

In the roof gutter you have 2 pieces, a rubber seal that is bonded to the roof then a metal colour coded part that is bonded to this rubber seal, the black part that is visible is this rubber seal.

That's another thing...take every factory colour they did the escort in then double it....that's how many part numbers there is for them as they came colour coded
