Holly Moley....I've just check the price of the real thing near 200k for some and I haven't been looking too hard. I think for the average Joe like me , If I was desperate to have an RS200 there's only one option and that would be the Kit.
Real ones are out of reach and there are no garages in heaven.....or hell So I like it. I suppose the problem would be that you have to show a car, people must get to see them, talk about them and go out for a spin in them. You would have to be honest and tell the truth which might take the shine off ownership a little bit, but what the hell it keeps up the good British tradition of proper kit cars.

My personal opinion is to own the real thing or don't bother.. as I'm a fan of the car and it's pedigree and history so getting a mr2 kit car would just ruin the experience. This goes for all cars imo..

If I was doing a kit car i'd do a westfield or caterham.

Some of those 200 reps do look convincing though to the untrained eye.

The only way the company trying to sell that car which has been on ebay, will get that sort of money for a standard 1.8 RS200, is that if they buy up all the other cars and set fire to them so their RS200 is the only one in existance.

I've see a couple ranging from 175-199, I haven't found a cheaper one as yet but I might have another trawl of the internet. I've always liked the RS 200 so its interesting to spend a minute or two and have another look.
I suppose only having ever been 200 made they must be a rare as hens teeth to find on sale.

It was £125k not so long ago. I read on the Rs owners club forum that he doesn't want to sell it and everytime someone shows a bit of interest in it he puts the price up £25k

Hi everyone, this is my first post on here.

J101 KHW is my car which I build during 2008 and re-registered with the DVLA in 2009.

It is based on the Mk2 MR2 Turbo platform so retains the floorplan, suspension pick up points, front and rear bulkheads and crash zones to which are then added a tubular space chassis which is integral to a full role cage. All dimensions are as accurate as I could get to a real RS200, in fact I took measurments from Steve G's genuine car. The mid mounted engine is inboard of the rear turrets, fuel tank in down the middle of the car and it runs on TEIN coilovers with road setting springs. The handling is spot on, and needs to be! The basic chassis concept is therefore very similar to Fords own version albeit Mid engine RWD and single dampers instead of twin.

The GRP body panels are Ford/Banham which means they are from one of the original mould sets from Ford Motor Co. These were offered to the RSOC to buy, but they turned turned their noses up at them so Paul Banham bought them and developed a basic kit car (mine is not one of those basic MG Maestro cars though)! The original intention was to sell my own version of the RS200 as a part built replica but the economy down turn basically stopped me....

All hinges and brackets work like the real deal with the inside having an original Ford RS200 dash (not a Sierra item) VDO 10k rev counter, speedo, and various other parts which came from Trevor Hopkins car (RIP), with new pro 2000 bucket seats that match the original Sparco's as near as possible. For the haters, the wheels are actually forged motorsport items and not from our friends at Halfords, but you have to put up with coments like that every now and then!

The photos above are quite old and the car is constanly being updated, buts its about there now.

The car will do 0-60 mph in the dry, warm engine, tyres, half a tank of fuel in 4 secs on a good day, it will obviuosly brake the national speed limit with ease! The mid range is punchy too as the car is very light.

The brakes are 340mm dia all round, the BHP figure is over that mentioned above, but is reduced for road useage. The 3sgte evolution 3 engine has a hybrid turbo, rally cams, BVH, forged low compression pistions, big injectors, 8Krpm limit and a ton of other items to make it go, all built by myself & mapped by Ryan @ 2 bar tuning.

The car featured in two international kitcar/componant car magazines, one of which was with the mk3 MR2 above and the other with Willies genuine 560bhp RS200.

A few weeks ago I booked a stand at the BHP show in Lydden where my own car was on display along with Justin's (RSOC RS200 registrar's) genuine E reg RS200. Everyone that came for a look and chat loved what had been achieved and could not believe how accurate it was compared to Justin's original which was parked next to mine.

The only down side to my replica is the value of 30k verses 150k for one the genuine cars!

Like all of you, I am a Ford nut through and through but also cannot justify the cost of buying a genuine RS200 or being able to run one, so therefore used what I think is the best alternative, and that is why my replica is based on a reliable Japanees mid engined 2 seater sports car, the MR2 Turbo. If Ford had built the MR2 instead of Toyota the story would be totally different !!

If you genuinly like these cars or even hanker after an RS200 replica then take a look on Face Book were I set up a group to cater for all of the various replica versions. Search RS200 replica and joins us.

So to end - if I have bored you half to death I oppologise!

                      Thanks
                      Mike.

PS - my spell checker was off.

There's nothing wrong with a well-engineered and executed replica - for a fraction of the cost, you can own the beauty, and, often, the performance. it's all of the crap and frauds that spoil the industry. So many awesome cars just aren't available to even those with means - for example, only six Shelby Daytona Coupes were ever built. I've personally lusted after the Manta Cars T-70 and McLaren M6 replicas (when they were available), the ERA GT40, and currently, the Factory Five Daytona Coupe. But, my Cossie won out for my limited funds. Mike N., I didn't know you could get an RS200 replica, but yours seems pretty convincing. Much better than a Pontiac Fiero-Lambo re-body.

                        cheers,
                        Boyd
