I have a friend who is a Chinese national but now lives in the uk and married to an English man, they run a company that specialise in developing trade relationships between the uk and china to grow import / export between the 2 countries, she is back and forth to china frequently.
I'm sure she would be more than happy to help us if need be
Not for a minute suggesting you need any help rscosworthman but the offer is there if it helps at all
Got a funny feeling the person who made the original replica 18's is on this thread or aware of it.
Wouldn't surprise me if people who bought them for big dough are not gonna be happy
Does anyone know how many original sets of these 18s were made?
I really don't know. I hope my Ford friend will come up with some nice details about the wheels, mainly specs, but maybe also sales figures. But it is quiet from his side so far.
These are a few other thoughts I had over the weekend:
I'd really prefer to go for the original size first. I'm a big fan of keeping stuff original, I know others are not, but hey, let's start with the 18x8" - can you guys please respond on this?
I want to limit the run of 18x8s to 30 sets for this forum only. I got a few messages from the Dutch forum guys stating that I should make another run of 30 for the Netherlands alone, but to be honest, I don't want that. Want to keep them a bit special, at least in the Netherlands, that should be my fair reward for doing this.
I'm starting to give up to get an original 18" in my hands or have someone scan its own. So I'm going down the route of supersizing the 16 inch version now. First virtually in a software package called solidworks, and I'm still thinking about whether I want a 3d printed (plastic) version first to see it in reall life before I invest several thousands in making a mould
I found a few Chinese wheel producers that claim to have ISO certification (they needed it to deliver to OEMs) - I'm going to dive deeper into that, it sounds good. Their wheels really look nice.
So, slowly working towards an end-result here, but I'm not expecting any wheels before Oktober/November to be honest.

Reason: forgot a part
18x9J inch delivered! New (and probably last) batch being produced as we speak - se posts here
Very good work so far.
The 18x8 is OK for me, as long as the ET and clearance for all parts are good.
About supersizing the 16" wheels.. this should work, i only hope the software also takes the "concave style" of the original wheel along (from inner center to outer border in a nice angle)
that was always the main gripe about the 18" not having a deeper concave of the spokes .maybe you could rectify this if your starting afresh?
Of course - a bit more concave is possible here, albeit limited by the fact that we want to keep the ET around 25mm and the fact that the stock center caps should still fit, I think we cannot do 'extreme concave'.
Once I have the design in 3D I will make two versions: original and more concave.

18X8 would be fine for me also as i would still like to be able to drive the car without the tires arching out or rubbing on the front wheel arch liners!
