  • Thanks for all positive reactions. I enjoy working with you guys very much as it is super constructive and positive.

Time for an update, as I have some progress here on the center caps. Monday I will 3D print one to check them on my 16 inches.

The first center cap was modeled in Solidworks by 'gluing' 5 pieces together:

Then it was compared with the 3D scan of the original cap

and we saw that it was not correct:

So we corrected the shape and compared again:

When merging with the scan, you can see it is quite accurate:

      • it certainly does but if you are going for a deeper dish wheel then presumably the spokes will come out at more of an angle than an original wheel? wont the cap need to be diff as well? or are you just making a wider version of the standard wheel?

        • I don't think it was a deeper dish nick just a lower et on the hub section...

            • Guys with big brake kits - I will need your help now. Let me explain:

You are right Adamski, this is how it is being designed now. And to be fully honest with you - I totally forgot about deeper-dish. The thing is, now we go from ET25 to ET15 there is an opportunity to go deeper-dish BUT this might interfere with the wish to allow for big brakes, as deeper dish means less room, mainly around the hub area.

SO, I STILL THINK DEEP DISH IS COOL - that's why I need help of someone with a big brake kit. We got two in the Netherlands - one burned down two weeks ago (!!) the other one is on holiday.

Can someone deliver me the sizes below? Then I can put them in the 3d model:

              a. Distance between heart of brake until beginning of caliper
              b. Thickness of brake caliper from disk until widest point
              c. Width of caliper measured horizontally
              d. Height of thickest part of caliper

              • The caliper in your picture is a CP5200 4 pot, are you not better going for the dimensions of a larger dimension CP5555 6 pot caliper?

If so what size discs will the wheels take as you can run 378,362,355 or 330mm with the 6 pot caliper.

I think I've found the dimensions here, but if someone can check and confirm, would be great:

                      • I have HI-SPEC 6 pot and 310mm rotors so im not sure if my measurements would be of any use?

let me know if needed and i will take some measurements but my kit was designed to fit behind standard 16" rims

If they fit behind standard 16" rims there is no problem at all! They will fit for sure. But thanks for offering anyway!

                          • Small update here:

I found that only 50 sets of the 18 inch wheels were made, mostly ET25 and allegedly some ET15.

Reproducing the center cap is going to be more expensive than I hoped, as I have 5 RfQs back from the injection moulding companies. The mould alone will cost about 3000 GBP, i.e. 25GBP per cap, and after that, the cap is only 0.5 GBP. The other routes are mass-3D-printing or still buying the original cap. I 3D printed a cap (low res, just for fitment purposes) and surprisingly it was already in the right direction. The shape of the bumps is still way off though. Looks almost like cosworth-look wheels now. We will adjust!

My 3D modeller is hard at work to exactly copy the 16 inch wheel, before sizing it up to 18 inch. The image below is where we are at now, with the above centercap design in the middle. It's all still not there, but it is getting there:

                            • Most people will change for genuine ford anyway

I will gladly buy a set without the centre cap
