Extra port on oil seprator

Hi guys can an extra port be welded on an oil seprator?
if it can, is it just a case of drilling a hole in the side and welding a piece of pipe on?

they usually have a baffle in them so that any oil vapour/fumes hit that and run down to the sump return at the bottom so you would need to work out where it was first and fit it to the correct side
