Extra port on oil seprator

Hi guys can an extra port be welded on an oil seprator?
if it can, is it just a case of drilling a hole in the side and welding a piece of pipe...

What do you guys do for the oil return to the sump , have a boss welded into the sump or is there something you can do with the drain plug maybe a banjo...
