my Dad had always had pretty cool cars when I was a kid, a mk2 Granada 2.8 ghia x, that had the full proper expensive RS kit on it, arch extensions and skirts, the lot. He Seemed to stick to Ford V6's, as had a late xr4x4, again with full kit on, and also a j plate 24v Scorpio, yep, that was rs kitted too. Only Rs I he's had was a 86' series 2 turbo, bought it when it was three years old, where it had been pinched, used in a building society robbery
, then dumped at Birmingham Airport
once some vandals had pinched the trim and bust all the windows it looked like this:

four weeks later it looked like this:

He regrets ever selling that.
It was the grip from the xr4x4 that prompted me into a 4x4 Saph Cossie.

My first Car was a Pug 205GTI, but my main love was Motorbikes....
However, a friend of mine got a grey S2 and I had to have one. I bought a red 88 plate S2 and spent an absolute fortune on it. All work was carried out by Van Aaken developments. (wonder if they are still about?)
Then I went to shows with the S2 and saw the cossies. The final straw was the guy at the end of the street getting an Escos. I knew one day I would have one.
Now I have a grey S2 and the Escos

I got into it through my uncle who has got a mint capri RS3100 and a mk2 RS2000. I remember going to a show one weekend with him when i was about 12 and the Escort Cosworth had just come out, i saw 1 for the first time and thought WOW i would love to be able to have one of them!!! So here i'am 17 years later.
Had mine for 4 years now after having a couple of mk5 RS2000's and a S2. Even my dad has got into the Ford scene now, Owning a mint MK2 RS2000 with 60 odd tho on the clock.

When I was 8 years old or something I saw some cool cars racing on tv, those apparently were Sierra's. At the age of 16 I ment Bjorn (Mr.Ford) and we both had the same hobby, cars. He was/is completely Ford minded so I went to some shows with him. When I was 17 I bought a 1989 Escort XR3i wich I had for 6 or 7 years (modded from 1.6 CVH to 2.0 ZVH). In the meanwhile I kept thinking about those Sierra's and at the end of 2008 I was able to buy a real 3 door Cosworth. Think I'll keep this car for quite some years

I couldn't care less about cars when I was younger. They practically had to drag me to driving school to get my licence
Then I met Jo who works for Ford. Everything went ok the first year or so (LOL) but then one of his colleagues bought an EsCos. For years he kept on talking about it and all I could think was "I don't even want to be found dead in one of those".
For some reason we first ended up with a 4x4 Sapph, but got that EsCos when his colleague sold it.
Since then things went seriously wrong LOL
I still blame his colleague!

Some really interesting stories here - great topic.
For me it all started in 1986. I was always into cars but when the RS200 appeared in the WRC it definitely triggered something... A couple of years later a local garage (this is in France by the way) had a mint 200 sitting in the workshop and when I stopped and saw it for the first time "for real" I was hooked. Since then I've tried to "live the dream" of what I can afford as close as I can get to the spirit of a 200.

my dad had a brooklands capri 1988-E.. he used to show it at every possible show he could, and id always be there with him.. i remember bk in about 1991 he was gonna have a deal with some fella who had saph cozzy.. not sure what deal it was gonna be but it never happened. bk then i remember thinkin the capri looked so much better then the cozzy, didnt really no to much about cozzys and it just looked like a normal 4 door sierra.

My Dad, I was bought up with my parents both having Fords from a mk1 Fiesta 1.3 Sport to Stratus Silver RS1600i, Rosso Red XR3, Mercury Grey Series 2, Mercury Grey 2wd Saph and Radiant Red RS2000 4x4 (all owned from new). Its funny as I always knew the Saph was special as people used to stop and stare and say nice things about it (I was about 10/11) but I never understood why as I didn't think it was the greatest looking car compared to the spoilers on the Series 2 and RS1600i but always loved the interior, I remember as a kid thinking the bolsters on the Recaros where huge! but all this wasn't was really what got me into Fords.. I just really liked the look of boy racer cars and would buy Max Power/Fast Car mags and remember feeling gob smacked how much people would spend on cars, I was also massively into Drum and Bass, so the sound system element was there as well. There where also a couple of local cars that influenced me including a Blue Renault 5 Turbo (must have been a Raider) with Skeete kit and green tiger strips (it made it into Max Power!) I remember liking the Dimma Kitted 205's, Nova SR/GTE's and mk2 Astra's. So as you can guess my first car was destined to be boy racer central! and it was... mk2 Astra.. with limo tint windows, Manta Alloy wheels, GTE interior, Peco big bore 2 exhaust (with center box taken out) and yellow head lamps.. god I loved it but I must have looked a complete cunt
although my mates loved it and so did a few girls
anyway I drove the car into a tree being a dick racing a Nova
and was carless for a couple of months.
I really wanted a Nova SR, Corsa or a Pug 205 Roland Garros.. looked at few but couldn't really afford them and out of the blue my Dad phones up and says his mate is selling a Fiesta and I remember being like erm no thanks Dad but then he told me it was a 1.6.... 16v
and I was like ...mmm power so agreed to have a look and fell in love with this Fiesta Si which I modded big time (made front cover Fast Ford mag) and met loads of people in the Ford Scene that was into RS1600i's, RS Turbos and Fiesta Turbos, went to Ford Fair with the Fiesta Si and was introduced to the bufties and show cars etc and the passion grew from there.. what made me want a Esc Cos was the fact it was the ultimate Fast Ford and there where a couple local to me where I grew up being Damo V's Monte in the hands of the original owner and a Pacifia Blue Lux owned by Paul@inca and a couple of other Pacifica Blue ones . The Esc Cos was for then owards top of the list of boyhood dreams to have one and I finally got one 5 years ago
.. .regretted it ever since
