  • Down On Power :-(

I don't know if i'm imagining it or not but my car seems to have lost some of it's 'WOW' factor
Trouble is i've not driven it to it's full potential for a while as it was on a standard box for quite a while, and recently i've been testing a new design of box so was going gentle on that initially but now that we're confident the box is good i've been winding the boost pot right up................ but it just feels lacking now
To make things worse i got beaten twice yesterday and i've only been beaten twice in the last year............ once by a bike and the other was a lost cause before we even started

Yesterday on the A303 an Aston DBS left me in it's wake with ease and i'm not even gonna tell you what else came past me on full chat as it was quite an embarrasment
I've checked the stats on the DBS and that's the same HorsePower as me and a fair bit more weight......... i wouldn't expect to match his top speed but this was from 80 up to 130mph........... i should have had him worried but didn't

The car drives absolutely fine apart from this problem............. don't know what to do really, either book a Rolling Road close to home or just book a day off and go to SCS so they can have a run up the road in it and either say it's fine and i've just got used to it or something's gone tit's up

Any thoughts ? Given that i'm not the best at understanding the black magic that makes these things go along the road

Maybe that would be the easiest thing............ one run would probably only cost me about what it would cost in fuel to go back to the Tuner who built it
'Good RR' as you say will be the key though............ if there is a problem and they don't know their stuff i'm worried it could all go bad before they spot what's happening

I don't know who's good within a reasonable ditance of home i would trust your place but you are about as far from me as SCS is anyway

FIRST thing I would do is check for a boost leak. Take it somewhere that can pressure test it to around 2 BAR (or whatever your max peak boost should be) with compressed air.

Your symptoms are typical for a case of long-term (gradual) loss of boost. No good saying "it makes full boost on guage, so it must be ok" because it dont work like that.

maybe you have a boost leak, have you had any hoses off recently as sometimes the top of the hose looks good but is not quite on properley on the bottom

CItroen flipping AX towing a trailer

I'd of kept shtum about that

sounds like your just booting it in gear and waiting for the turbo to boost.

i knock it down a cog or 2 and give it a bootin and that sorts the situation out.

It was such an un-assuming looking thing in the rear view i really couldn't see that it was worth the effort of a cog drop Just goes to show you can't take anything for granted

To top it all after i re-took him he gave me a load of grief......... well, he appeared to anyway Like i need that off some whipper-snapper with a gentically modified Frog

Unlike the Aston, a thumbs up and a wave as i peeled off onto the M25.......... he returned the gesture Gentlemen duelling on the Queens Highway....... yes, i'm all in favour............ but as for the other

Well, maybe that's the thing then.............. i could have my suspicions coinfimed or denied locally.......... but if it is down which i feel it must be then i'll only be coming your way anyhow so might aswell spend the cash on fuel to get to you
Harvey can use his Arse Dyno as he'll know straight away wether it's right or not
