  • looking for a cossie but so expensive why?

hi i am looking for a tad of advice, i have always wanted an escort cosworth purely for the looks and because im not getting any younger either so now is the time, i understand these cars are only worth what people are willing to pay but was shocked at how much some folk want for them
is this money greed with the owners over pricing them due to heritage rallying brand etc?
do owners just store these cars and never drive them?
i was planning on spending 20k max for a really good one that can drive daily
im not bothered much to be honest with speed anymore iv just sold an impreza p1 which all round is a superb car
but 30k plus for a escort at end of the day seems very steep imop
do most people buy these hoping they will be worth house money someday
or do folk actully drive these fairly frequently or just park them upto look at in the garage
    cheers

There's a large spectrum of cars out there, from 10k up to 30k plus.

I think that if a car is over 22k then it needs to be pretty special to command that price - a lot of the expensive ones online have been for sale for yonks, and seem to be a dealers rather than private sales.

Having said that, they are creeping up in price as are all the 'cosworth' RS cars.

Buying a good condition Escort Cosworth to use daily will certainly devalue it. Having said that, using a Escort Cosworth daily will cause you plenty of grief. Its a +/- 20 year old performance car, plenty of parts are hard to get and expensive for example...

You'll get a good one for £20k, but I wouldn't want to use one daily myself as others have said.
        Cheers

          Welcome to the site
Most rs cars are on the up, even s2's and they have been fairly cheep for years,
Escort cosworths have always held there value well.
My one is a 34k imperial, totally standard valued at 25k, but it is an investment
Big turbo multiple concours car Mor is for sale in Chesterfield at 50k
And you can buy a house for that in Chesterfield, so some of them are already at house prices

I don't think you will have trouble finding one for 20k, but don't expect a low mileage totally standard one , as bargain escort cosworths don't exist,

          Good luck in the search

so im guessing most guys on here who own escort cosworths store there cars in a garage in the hope that one day they will become gold mines?
does anyone still drive there escort ?
im just looking at having one as a second car and for the looks to drive around in now and again the investment part does not bother me, personaly i couldnt stick it away in a garage for 15 odd years in the hope that its going to be worth over 40k one day and never drive it
what is the average age of the escort cosworth owner if you are keeping them for investment?

When I had mine I used it every day and kept it nice, when I get my next one which should be very soon it will get used every day, when it breaks I will fix it!

have to agree, cars are for driving and enjoying, and im guessing most esco cossie owners now used to have posters or it was there dream car, but its a new generation of hothatches and youth nowadays and dont think many would want an escort in 10 yrs for 30k when the mk2 focus rs audi rs models etc will be lower priced then as thats prob the dream cars of the new gen, to be honest i think if it wernt for the spoiler i would look at something else

They were meant for driving but if you want to keep them in good condition then best not to use them as a daily.
Also most have better road cars on here to use as a daily.
When I drove myne it was never going to be as good as the M3 I had at the time so I was not fussed about using it.
