Sparkyp, if all your getting one for is the looks, why not
just go out and buy a 1400cc Escort with a copy fibreglass
body kit? From reading your post's I can't help but think
your buying the wrong car for the wrong reasons...maybe
even a car you don't really understand?
You keep referring to how good your Impreza was but
you chose to sell it, maybe you should have kept it?
Good luck in your search and I hope you eventually find
    the right car for you.

i know what you mean mate but a replica does not look half as good and is not genuine at the end of the day, i just mean the cosworth badge does not mean a thing to me, yet iv always just wanted a cossie escort, obv all you guys see cosworth as engine gods and the escort to be given worship status, so what is there to understand about the car that requires it to be hailed a legend?

I am not sure many have bought them just to keep in a garage to make a few quid. I would imagine the cars had an appeal to a certain generation, with many not in a position to own one until they were of driving age and able to afford one.
Personally its irrelevant how much they go up/down in value to me, as I wanted to own one from my youth, its just a pity it took so long to be able to afford one lol

Obviously compared to any modern cars they are rougher and perhaps dated, however that is part of their overall appeal.

Had my car out on Sunday for first time in a year. Couple of young lads took picture off their phones as it sat at traffic lights, grey haired driving instructor stuck thumb out of window as we passed and group of golfers at the tee stopped and pointed when we were at roadworks, an Escort Cosworth is still a car that people like to see.

        Regards

Exactly, I've never drove or been in a car that creates so much attention, sometimes I have a big red face driving mine for all the right reasons though

exactly guys the whole point i want one and point iv been trying to make, the looks of it, i just think theres alot of pipe dreaming owners and sellers who set there own prices hoping folk will pay mental cash for one, there seems to be the same debate on this and other forums before about cosworth prices where a majority feel most owners look to store looking for investment or massively overprice them more than they are ,worth and are money greedy, but guess the trump card is to have one in first place, but i wonder how many folk would admit to over pricing theres and admiting its not worthe asking price and truthly how much do owners actully think there esco cossies will be worth in 10 yrs, you would be gutted if no one wanted it anymore your almost 50 and would look daft driving it

At the end of the day if you want one get one, you only live once. I think we're just giving you the lowdown it might not be the experience you think, and it doesn't really matter which one you buy now, they're an old car and you can still end up with big bills or struggling to find a lot of the parts. Be aware you won't be able to go to your local Ford dealer for most of the parts now, and they're not interested or skilled enough to work on them, trust me, I found that out the hard way.
And be prepared to pay a premium for some of the parts from other sources because of their rarity.

But then all us silly buggers still do it, they do get under your skin. I guess a lot of us have been Ford diehards for a long time though.
                  Cheers
                  Trev.

your right trevco, i guess if you want one that bad you will pay for it hence the die hard ford fan part, but cant see past the owners who take the piss to be honest and seem to think the escort cossie is worth so much more compared to cars much more succesful or more advanced etc nowadays
personally think its just fake credability as the esco cossie for me was not even a rally success but unless you have esco cossie tunnel vision your never going to see past it,
i was looking at an escort cosworth pricing debate on the rs owners club forum and was a laugh everyone with an escort thinks there worth the moon and best cars made, yet alot of folk looking on the outside looking in can see there not worth it and due to owners have over inflated prices but guess thats the joys of being car lovers lol
